I got the same problem, then checked in the plug-in folder of GIMP to see if a folder named '_gmic' was here. And it was not. So, maybe you can check it too. This folder is necessary to make the updates working.

@ZWard117

You can test the archive 64-bit Windows available from http://samjcreations.blogspot.ca/2012/0 ... -bits.html

In this archive you can copy gmic_gimp.exe and paste it into ...\gimp_2_8_0-64bits\pref_1\plug-ins

You can start Gimp by clicking on Demarrer_Gimp.bat

G'MIC filters are in ...\gimp_2_8_0-64bits\gmic-filtres

By default, "Filters update" place the filters (*.gmic , etc.) in this directory.

Then, you should go to 'About / Additional Filters', then click on 'Apply', then try to refresh your filters once again.

YA well I did that too and I still don't get the additional sets appearing. I did find that the files were thrown into my appdata dir. That normal?

Thanks David/samj. Just downloaded the 1.5.1.3 from your site samj; update and all went well; verified that the previous kuwahara issue is also been fixed. :)

that is normal for standard version not for samj version

also the standard version may save the file internally but for that require do something to some environmental variable
i can't give more detail because i find that cumbersome and unfriendly so i just got samj build that does automatically

But it was a recent discussion on the flickr gmic group (title as " make gmic portable" or something similar) where you may found
all the detail

PS "unfriendly" mainly because is not a option visible from the Gmic gui,
if was a option as "store additional filter in _gmic folder "available in the "Additional filter" or more simply "store filters definition files internally for portability" inside the gmic "about " menu my opinion would be different

Neither one allowed for gmic to show the additional filters anyway.

Yup thanks for the update to GMIC David! :)
All filters working correctly now in GMIC>Artistic including Pheonix-Steam-Pencil.
All updates performing normally in GMIC for me.

Samj,
I just saw that version 1.5.1.4 is available for Window 7 64bit, and so I uninstalled my older version of G'mic, downloaded the newest, but being a computer idiot I don't know what to do now. There doesn't seem to be an installer. Do I simply cut and paste the files, and if so where do I put them?
Thanks

They go into your user plug-in folder. You didn't need to un-stall your GMIC
This may help.
