I'm fine with GIMP but the poll is split.

I say keep it GIMP; hate change for the sake of change. Besides, I don't want to change Wilber with an IMP.

Regardless of the outcome of the poll, a name change won't happen anyway. This is not a popularity contest but a matter of convincing all lead developers to change an identity that has served us all well for 16 years and counting.

People complaining about the name should fork their own version of the code and distribute it with a snazzier name rather than expect people to do it for them. Welcome to the world of open source.

(and as far as I know, the program was never actually called "The Gimp" but GIMP, Gnu Image Manipulation Program, a perfectly fine name).

There was a very inferior package called Gimpshop that was supposed to be a user friendly edition in place of Photoshop, but it didn't go anywhere and a lot of people confused it with Gimp.

I think it should stay the same as gimp is easy to remember and as griatch said it has done the program well for 16 years

A fun program needs a fun name. Gimp is good and its well recognised. Photoshop with character!

I sort of like the name GIMP too since it implies that even a crippled (metaphorically speaking of course) user can use it. May not be true (lol), but it's at least not an intimidating name (to me anyway).

I prefer it to stay the same "Gimp".
It's well known already.

Besides do you know how many website domain names would have to be changed to reflect that change?
