I would like to see the ornament portion of Photomaster's tutorial to be incorporated into a script or plug-in. I'm still too raw to undertake such a project on my own. I created my own toppers (the metal portion) as a brush, so I really don't need that as part of the script/plug-in. Photomaster's tutorial link is below, if anyone is interested in giving it a shot. Yes, I made several angles of toppers, with different lighting. The problem I am facing currently, and the reason I am requesting a script/plug-in, is because I make one image and post it, and then the whole family wants one. I have too many requests and not as much time. A script would help me breeze through this. Fingers crossed!

I will cross mine too... not that we are short of very bright talented scriptwriters here.

I wish there was somebody here that would take me under their wing and teach me this stuff one on one. I'd be scripting my butt off, seriously!



I have a degree in computer science (that's what they called it back in the 80's) was going to be a COBOL programmer, so logic, flow and exception processing aren't a problem. I just don't know the script-fu language.

I'd be better at it if I could concentrate on just doing that, unfortunately I only have time to dabble, and by the time I get back to it, I have to train my brain all over again. No excuse, just the way it works out for me.

I learned lisp in the 80's.

Script-fu is really scheme so if you know programming, get this: http://www.gnu.org/s/mit-scheme/documen ... me-ref.pdf in one hand, and open the pdf reference in the other, and read through a few scripts (using a good syntax highlighting editor)..... That's how I figured it out!

That's exactly how I learned Script-fu. Notepad++ is a good editor to use.

Gurp! My bad... PDB (Not PDF) the Procedural DataBase which list all the gimp functions. The easiest way is to open the script-fu console (Filers->Script fu->Console) (TIP: there might be two script-fu entries, check under both...) and open the pdb reference with the Browse button, as this will let you "Apply" them into the script-fu console with the proper brackets.

Under windows I also use notepad++

Enjoy using code, but never really got interested in it; learned Fortran and assembler in College, but only did some assembler and Quickbasic during my short 10 year career as an EE. I'm a circuit guy; to eaches own. Anyway, it would be cool to automate the ornament process and maybe we will all get a new toy soon. Anyone for another raindance? lol

There are methods for making the ornament cap that don't require Mathmap. (I haven't found a need for Mathmap so I've never installed it.)

I made this cap using a layer mask and a hard round brush to get the scallop.

I've already made 15 of these manually, I don't think I can raindance fast enough! Hahaha! Anyway, that would cut into my time making them...

Christmas Ornament script (visit the page and click on the "Download" button).

It's rather crude (the Map Object plug-in is a bit of a bear to script) but perhaps somebody can do something with the code. It has not been extensively tested so do not be surprised if you encounter bugs (I suspect that in rare cases, some non-square layers that are offset within the image might cause problems).

The script adds a command ("Filters->Map->Christmas Ornament") that works with either the current layer or the selected region of the current layer if there is a selection present. If the region is not square then it will first be fitted within a square region ("letterboxed") using the current background color. The two background strips (if added) will be visible on the final ornament

To ensure that this does not happen, you should start with a perfectly square layer or selection.

I get an error when I try to download the script says firefox can't find the server at www.chiselapp.com

Right click on the link and then 'Save Link as' the MEME settings on that server don't know what a .scm file so it just displays it as text. Hope that works for you!
