LIST what in your opinion should be better included in gimp BUT is not
NOTE WELL should be already avialable

Please ,don't forget a link for the page and/or the download
Limit ONLY to what you think most useful NOT everything cool you may found, in other words try to be very selective

Would be nice if you also specify WHY you think that what you chose is very useful

1) Brush

2) Pattern

3) gradient

4) palette
Not sure here how many made often use of paletttes...

5) what else doesn't fit in 1, 2, 3 and 4
(i.e. curve presets, gimpressionist presets ...)

keep suggestions separate for 1 ,2,3,4, 5

thank you

if you wonder why this topic
...just image a nice pack that include the better suggestions :hi5

What we need is really basic stuff. Pepperoni brushes and flame gradients are OK for demos, but some basic stuff isn't there. Current Gimp default "tools" are a bit like being provided a toolbox with paint templates for flowers but a single screwdriver of the wrong size. What I would like to see:

- gradients: black and white, with some variations: plain linear, one with mid-point shifted to black, and one with midpoint shifted to white. A good half of my use of gradients is on layer masks, that are monochrome.
- geometric patterns: hexagons, diamonds, diagonal stripes, circles, in black and white or with some fundamental color to make them easy to re-color.
- palettes: some basic colors with saturation/value variations

Good suggestions, ofnuts. Yes, I have brushes and gradients and patterns I use a lot that are not included in oob GIMP.

I'm also thinking there are scripts that I use over and over not included in gimp that would be good included in the pack.

I like your idea, PhotoComix. Good one. :bigthup :hi5 :yes

6. RobA's Chisel script. Better still, a plug-in which performs similarly but with a preview.

6. saulgoode's Align Down script. There are multiple ways of aligning layers already, but they tend to be somewhat complicated whereas this script is just too convenient for most times when I need to center layers. (Perhaps a better name, though.)

@Ofnuts
nice suggestion do you have also the links ,
or maybe you have that on your computer and you may upload somewhere ?

@Saulgoode
thank for the suggestions and links
personally i would also include your "animation setting" and "combine Bg" scripts:
if gimp has to support simple basic layer based animation , as animated Gif, then the 2 scripts are almost strictly needed

and i consider mirrors as a simple ,intutive and basic tool so i will consider also the "sg-mirror-dup" script

Oh, a big YES on those.

I was wondering if a brush pack would be too many brushes. My arrow brushes come in so handy for using on explanatory screen shots. http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?p=343#p343

Well, what about what GIMP doesn't have, but needs. Ofnuts pretty much covered my "basics" requests for things that are available, but I find that even the most simple things like a "line tool" is missing from the GIMP arsenal. A line tool that can be utilized like the with the draw menu in Open Office. Arrow on one end or both ends, dashed lines, with varying degrees of thicknesses and dash spacing (not to be confused with stroking paths. I mean having that option without the need of a path or stroking...

My point is that what proposed on this topic must be not a wish but something that do exist already even if not bundled in gimp

As example the "animation setting" script already exist, as like several brush more useful then the "green pepper" brush.

Mixing what available with wishes would made derail this topic, (in my opinion )

G'MIC
Simple as that :D Useful for everything I use it atleast once a Day, maybe during install there would be an option to include MathMap as an Animation Package option for GIMP Too

A good actions recorder
for simple everyday actions like resize and watermarks.
It would be real nice if the recording saved as a scm :)

1)Photo edit
Edit Photography is considered as one of the Gimp main use,
leaving out other more specialistic script& plugin i will select

Liquid Resize,
Resynthesizer(+ related scripts) ,
Wavelet denoise
Refocus
Exif browser,

the first 3 are also adapt to edit also other type of images

2) file format plugin
ora
apng ?(apng plugin is a bit tricky to use don't integrate well in the save dialogs)
PDF + EPS ??
( require ghostscript and a additional path to be set )
jpg2000
Swf

(if can be made more friendly ,as now don't accept most of the Windows path
more is not integrated in the gimp save dialog require its own menu entry and save dialog)

for 2 ora and jpg2000 should work out of the box the other may require some fiddling

I use a lot of palettes and I have bunch that I downloaded but it seems like they're never the colors I want so 99% of the time I make my own palettes. I guess this doesn't really answer your question but the palettes that come with gimp are dopey and i end up deleting most of them. If it had palettes like these: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&secti ... s#/d1d5mch it would be much more useful. I also use the ones made by 'Marmite Mamie' also on DA, they're much more useful than flags of countries I don't care about.

Layer effects. http://registry.gimp.org/node/186
The scheme script. (Python is trouble. Might have been fixed by now, but my version doesn't let you use undo in GIMP any more after you've used this python script.)

It's the first script that people new to gimp install. And the script that should come with GIMP by default if you ask me.

Next G'MIC.

Arrow brushes and other shaped bruses that can replace shapes that PS and PSP have. Here are some arrow brushes, but the pack is sloppy  http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&secti ... p#/d2kbblg

All the patterns that come with OpenOffice. If that's allowed.

Yes XNView is free and runs PS filters instantly.Guess you would need to dl it too. :P
Of course if you have the script you need python installed to use it.

Also i would like to see a "decrease window size" in all the dialogs.
I know it's possible. In fact it may already be implemented and i just am too dim witted to see it. :P
Too many times i can not see the submit or okay buttons when the dialogs open.Kind of frustrating when i use the flames plug-in. :\

Here are the patterns of OOo. It's 7zip because I had trouble with regular zip files.

I went to open it, and it defaults to WinRar, and I have 7zip installed too...
