Zero response - because the topic is not serviceable solutions ?
Old topic - how to connect with Inkscape - GIMP ?
Using XNViewShell OpenOffice can export to (unfortunately, there is no possibility of direct return.)
Is this stupid? (may need to think globally!-my leader Partha [2.7.2 for WIN ] showed that anything is possible ! )
GIMP (using XNViewShell *. png) -> OpenOficce (Draw) -> export (*. svg -> Inkscape, or *. png -> GIMP ? )
Any news about plans to call Gimp -> Inkscape -> Gimp ?

I am really falling in love with this script. For some unknown reason, I just started getting a new error message that I never used to get. I noticed it last night for the first time. When using some PS plugins, I am getting an error that says "FilterMeister Run-time Exception" and "Memory Access violation". I can't find any reference to FilterMeister on my computer. These same plugins worked a couple of days ago. So now I use one of my other programs to run these plugins, by using the shell script! I am so thankful for this script!!

That is supposed to tell the program Gimp to save the temp file as an certain extension, and open it in that program as that extension i believe.
I did try it this way and it didn't work.

I haven't changed the code to do that yet...

Inkscape is SVG - not designed for raster images, so not sure what you are asking for.

Don't know about open office, as I don't use it.

Other various programs (really very small) support svg - why not Gimp?
XNViewShell - This is a new quality
With your script [ which I admire [http://silent9.com/incoming/scripts/]
result in new opportunities ... (and are still in need new GURM ....)
I will repeat - only you can help us - for free programs ...

Hy i am wrong or the script may be adapted to load the GTK theme switcher ?
I will love a "Theme switcher" entry in my gimp menu

It is very hard re read 17 pages of topic but i see that many already hacked the script to add new program...could you try to add the GTK theme switcher if you have installed...please !

You should be able to just go to Edit/Pref/Themes and choose one PC. :)
If you have themes 1.0 installed it creates 15 dif theme folders in your - gimp-2.0/share/themes folder.

Sure i get and i may use but i was meaning something else:

actually to access to the theme manager or i must leave another icon on the desktop or search in "all program list", i don't like neither

Since is for Gimp themes i would like a entry in the gimp Edit menu just under preference and i was wondering if a simplicated(simplificated because would not have to send images ,wait for output and close the program ... but only load it but form a option in the gimp menu) verson of this script would do the trick

Thanks for this python plugin. I have recently gotten into the GIMP and really enjoy working with it. I'm on windows and have found so far that Paint.NET works the best for a PS plugin carrier, just for the fact that it supports .png transparency. I found a lot of the other programs listed including XNView don't handle the transparency so the filters I use don't work correctly. I bought an Eye Candy Bundle a long time ago and under Paint.NET and this plugin the filters work flawlessly with non-square transparency.

I created a derivative that just calls Paint.NET using your original 0.3 version code. I realize that you made version that allows the program to be selected but I don't need all the others if Paint.NET works :)

Anyways, wanted to sign up for the forums and say thanks, Rob.

Contrary to the opinion that the Gimp can not create a good svg - example-created in the GIMP [2 - gimp-temp-24791 (copyright Rod).svg ] using plugin-trace.py
http://registry.gimp.org/node/21349 (for me, unfortunately only in Ubuntu - but apparently for some it also works in XP?)
So the question: "Inkscape is SVG - not designed for raster images, so not sure what you are asking for. Do not know about open office, as I do not use it." I ask again (since it can indirectly) so as to create the file (as XnviwShell) to export (svg) directly into Inkscape?

I guess the answer is no.

You used a python script to call autotrace to create the SVG file. Gimp can not create such a file on its own, only export paths as a svg file. That is completely different than what this plugin does, so really needs something written differently (which is what the plugin you linked to plugin-trace.py does... exports the image as a raster image png or bmp I'd guess, then calls autotrace to generate the svg. I'm guessing that could be modified to launch inkscape and load the svg file created by autotrace.

The other option is to work backwards from inkscape.

Quote:
You might have interest in a little script I wrote for gimp to implement "file linked layers". It was requested on the gimp mailing list here and my response is here that explains how it works.

I use it by saving a png from inkscape, then loading it as a file linked layer into Gimp. Then any time I change it in inkscape and re-save the png, you can use the "reload" command to pull the layer back into Gimp. Saves a bit of time.

Inkscape does allow bitmap mixing with vector, but not really good for bitmap editing itself. I remember Microsoft was working on a product, I believe, called Acryllic that would have been a true raster/vector editor, but believe that project died. I mentioned this before, but I do wish some genious would just combine Inkscape and GIMP into one program but don't think that will ever happen. :)

Hi all-

Attached is version 0.5 that now has a parameter to specify the type of raster file to export. Please note that this will use the gimp default settings for the filetype (i.e. you can't specify the jpeg compression level if you use "jpg"). (MSpaint is bmp and deep paint is a jpg as a test. I'd suggest using png whenever possible as it supports alpha/transparency...)

I've updated the syntax of the command people have reported and they are listed here:

  ["XNView", "\"C:\\Program Files\\XnView\\xnview.exe\"", "png"],
  ["MS Paint", "\"C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\mspaint.exe\"", "bmp"],
  ["Deep Paint", "\"C:\\Program Files\\DeepPaint\\deeppaint.exe\"", "jpg"],
  ["Inkscape", "\"C:\\Program Files\\Inkscape\\inkscape.exe\"", "png"],
  ["PaintDOTNet", "\"C:\\Program Files\\Paint.NET\\PaintDotNet.exe\"", "png"],
  ["MyPaint", "\"C:\\Program Files\\MyPaint\\mypaint.exe\"", "png"],
["Photo Filter Factory", "\"C:\\Program Files\\Photo Filter Factory\\Photo Filter Factory.exe\"", "png"],
["Photo Pos Pro", "\"C:\\Program Files\\Photo Pos Pro\\Photo Pos Pro.exe\"", "png"],
  ["Java Image Editor", "\"C:\\JavaJars\\imageeditor.bat\"", "png"],
  ["Java Mosaic", "\"C:\\JavaJars\\mosaic.bat\"", "png"],
  ["Vector Magic", "\"C:\\Program Files\\Vector Magic\\vmde.exe\"", "png"],
  ["Photo Clinic", "\"C:\\MAGIX\\Photo_Clinic_45\\PhotoClinic.exe\"", "png"],

Just comment/uncomment/add any new ones and post the syntax used.
