You can very easily do it yourself...

Open the .scm file in a text editor and find the line:
        (script-fu-menu-register "script-fu-make-3d" "<Image>/Xtns/Script-Fu/3Dtext")

Change it to read:
        (script-fu-menu-register "script-fu-make-3d" "<Image>/Script-Fu/3Dtext")
and re-save it.

In your menu bar it says Fenster and Hilife. What is that?

I would take a guess that its for Stands for windows and help, if you look at the other text in the image Espers Gimp is set to another languauge.

That is a great script but it only does the perspective in 2 directions.

Whereas the keep resize script looks more realistic perspective wise.

It is good, but because you can have Horizontal - right, netural, Left and Vertical Up,netural,Down
and you can half distance one of the axis then you do get 27 options I think on direction.

This script combined with the option of the bottom one to have the layers scaled would be a great tool.

I did that and it is in my Script-Fu but I can't get it to work. Do I select the text before I run the filter. I ended up with a bunch of frames but the text didn't change

(script-fu-menu-register "script-fu-make-3d" "<Image>/Script-Fu/3Dtext")

Molly - The script creates layers of text from the text layer you created.
Select the text layer and run the script. :)

The beauty of this script is Molly, that so long as what you want to give a 3d effect to is on a transparent layer it will work, as it creates a selection around your image.

Example, I used this script to create the rubber stamp in this image.

he4rty, that is excellent!
But I can not imagine how you did it.
Maybe a tutorial?

PS: Never stop looking the way to simulate 3D effects with the GIMP when others tell you that the best option is to use complex 3D software. :gimp
3D is basically extrusion and lighting. Well, maybe not so simple. :hehe

I ran the filter when the transparent text was selected and when it wasn't, I didn't end up with 3-D text.

that could be german, but when i had a look at the script it seemed to me, its written in dutch, which has some similarities to german (but i dont understand a word really, tbh)

'Fenster' means 'window'

Hilife is a typo, actually its 'Hilfe' and it means 'help'

Ahhh. OK. Thought it might be some kind of 'go faster' or 'dingleball' I could add to my Gimp arsenal.

The script was missing an undo path so I added one, as it can be useful

It's a good script and I hope the author won't mind

Definitely best to use Gimp tools and the 3D script is a good example, Greachan's undo tweak is a worthwhile addition, thanks for that.

IMHO still a good idea to keep an open mind and consider alternatives. When this topic came up previously I suggested Art Of Illusion because 3D and ray-tracing are the first thing that come to my mind. Blender, yes if you have the time and patience to learn about a complicated application.

For a quick one-off with limited options, a word processing package probably has some sort of 'word-art'. It might just do what you want.

Mentioned before, Inkscape. Not as straight forward as you might hope but has the advantage of flexibility.

Thanks for the undo update Graechan. Now I still can't get this to work. In my previous post I put a screen shot of my layers and I still don't get the 3-D effect. I went alpha to selection on my transparent text and ended up with a bunch of transformation copies but my text remained the same.

Libre Office Draw is an interesting program because it handles both raster and vector.

Molly you don't need to do the alpha to selection the script will do that for you so long as its on a transparent layer.

I tried it both ways he4rty. with out the alpha to selection I ended with 3 layers but the text didn't do anything, stayed the same. I will run it again and put in another screen shot. Isn't it supposed to make it into 3-D
