i tried to use the larger previews for Lighting Effects in Gimp 2.8.10
but got this error

"The Entrypoint 'g_get_tmp_dir_utf8' wasnt found in the DLL 'libglib-2.0-0.dll'"

Most of these plugins you can now grab the lower right corner and drag them out larger if i am not mistaken. At least on Windows builds it will work this way.
It all depends on your screen res and size. :)

The menu interface is different and much improved in 2.8.10, I was amazed when I first noticed.
[no need for larger previews?]
The Gaussian blur plugin display works fine but the lighting effects plugin display will not increase in size instead it displays a scaled down Image in the preview
Some plugins allow resize others don't

Bump map enlarges ok like that but not Lighting Effects.Maybe if you supply the re-edited large preview src files from this thread to Sam they can be re compiled with Gimp-2.8.10 libs? I would try but i have no build environment any longer. :(
