Hi there,
Rod has recently used FilterForge to design a very nice filter that looks a little bit like the so-called Fractalius filter (http://www.redfieldplugins.com/filterFractalius.htm).
He described me by e-mail how to do it, and I tried to convert his pipeline as a G'MIC filter. The result is now available in G'MIC [1.5.0.2+], and is located in 'Artistic/Rodilius'.
Here is how it looks like :
Image

This is something between Fractalius and the 'Hard-sketch' filter from G'MIC. I think that is a very nice one. So thanks Rod for the time you spent explaining all the pipeline. :tyspin

I'm curious to see what kind of stuffs you are achieving with it, seriously ! Feel free to post your experiments and your feelings about it here. :kpix

The filter is in G'MIC > Artistic

I love this filter. Nice job, Rod! I found that if I duplicate the image layer, run the filter on it, then make the layer mode Value, I get a bit more color depth.

OK; thought I would try to blend lylejk stencil with Rodilius (and some ACE) and got this result. Definitely need to fiddle more (add some soft glow effects in stuff maybe). Again thanks Rod/David. :)

Awe David that was kind of you to name it after me.
I do thank you for allowing me to be part of it's creation. :)

What a beautiful filter you have created.

Thanks Molly! :)

I bet an animation with this effect would look real cool.
Some twinkling stars perhaps?

Duplicating the layer and using the filter on the top layer and experimenting with layer modes makes some interesting results.

Got the original picture here: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap110928.html

This is a very huge image and rendering took about 3 minutes. Not bad.

How it was done and the settings.
First i duplicated the layer
Ran GMIC with these settings - applied to the top layer.
Image

I then placed the bottom layer on top and set the layer mode to saturation.
David i do not know how you did it but you are amazing!

Glad to see you appreciate it Rod. In fact it was quite easy to achieve (in G'MIC), just look at the piece of code I wrote to produce for this filter : http://pastebin.com/nGLtmgQd
Now, you see I'm just a lazy man, after all :)

Anyway, I started to play with the filter a little bit, and this is really cool how much different styles can be rendered with it. I admit I like it very much !

Very cool result Rod; I would say it's better then the Fractilus results that I've seen.

Only a guru coder like you would say it was simple David. Your gift to us still amazes me; so much hidden power and it keeps on getting better and never mundane. Kudos again David. :)

And there is the 'Animated' version of this filter now available in 'Sequences / Rodilius'.

(I don't know why, but I love the name :) )

I had a vision:
a Layer mode selector, with a Opacity Slider and a Swap Layers toggle appearing just below the other controls... :flirt

Simplicity Vs Flexibility :evilgrin
...maybe leaving simple as it is now but adding a new Rodelius-Pro filter will satisfy both needs

@Lylejk

Your last the dog is really amazing..i like your works but that really stand up ..it is poetic give some thrills..not sure how to explain is just beautiful

Thanks David; this one's really simple. Used the following settings, then ran an Enhance Details plugin (default settings) and used change amplication (modify a layer with original on top set to Grain Extract, merge down and set that to grain merge and duplicate this layer until I like the result; I do this quite often) to make it more so. Oh, also copied just the Rodilius layer on top set to color (almost forgot that step; change amplication can give you color artifacts). :)

Nothing as spectacular as Rod and Lyle's examples (which I love, btw). I accidentally found a chalkboard in this somewhere. Trying to duplicate my steps.

I agree Mahvin. Actually fed a Rodilius result into Mathmap Random Edge Detect and was quite pleased with that result too. Really a lot of cool possibilities with this preset. Saw David's code was really surprised how small the code was; that's why David's a programming genious. :)

edit:

What the heck. lol
