Does anybody know if there is a diamond script which will transform stripes into diamonds as shown below.

To get the result you show in your example, you would need to duplicate the original pattern, then flip it horizontally, use multiply layer mode for the duplicate, then lower the opacity. Flatten this image, then duplicate it again, flip the duplicate vertically, and apply overlay mode to the duplicate, then adjust opacity again.

I guess someone making a script to do those steps wouldn't be extremely hard.

I didn't use a script but it was a very simple thing to make it. Just duplicate it, flip it then set it as 50% transparent.

yes it is a very simple process but can give stunning results (i even wrote a tut based on this )

and a script may even be usefulwith option

1)
duplicate and flip and/or flop the active layer
2)
chose 1 or more layer modes
(average =normal at 50% opacity, multiply, lighten only, darken only, difference are the most adapt )
3)
get the visible(s) from the chosen combination(s) as new layer(s)

Hy :!:  ...it seems perfect for gmic , even easy to code

only problem i may see is that a similar filter will work better in my opinion with output on new layer or new image, but i can modify the output option because is a user decision

hum but what to do if the duplicated layer has to be not flipped or flopped but rotated of 90..?

oh well in that case i must see how crop away the not overlapping part

It all hinges on how transparent or opaque the user wants it, PC. I wasn't aware there was an existing script for this. If there is, I've forgotten about it, probably from a lack of use.

mahvin i was wandering if was the case to wrote as script i don't know of a a script ready for this

But when doing that tut i asked Saulgoode to help with a script that is very useful to automatize and speed up:

the script is a variation of New layer from visible the 2 very relevant differences

1) the active layer remain the same , the new layer is set as invisible
so is possible try another layer mode and/or flip in another direction,

get again the visible and so on

2) the new layer name is the name of the merging mode used (that help to keep track of what was done)

The script name was something as "Photocomix new Layer from visible" was posted on gimptalk, i must have a copy somewhere..the script doesn't do the dplication and the flipping but save lot of clicks

i must be able to post the saulgoode script at soon i gtot back home

well its all interesting ....I'm gonna have a crack at the first one and see how I go...apparently in psp its a fairly easy thing to do with some kind of filter or script in place.

Oh, I have that script, PC, but I was referring to one that flips and adjusts layer modes. Even still, a user may want it lighter or darker after running the script (if there is one).

Here's an old plaid tutorial I used to make patterns, in case you're interested. I think I have posted this before:

yes ok! I got this result using the simplified version...if I had half a brain I would have thought about this way myself...and its fairly adequate for what I want...Thanks guys for the input but may I suggest that a script would be nice if anyone is into doing those...I'm a bit of a numbnutz when it comes to that kind of thing.

Akky a script will speed up but i fear all the possible variation may confuse

i made 40 about seamless pattern based on that hakky image, just to test what a still hypotetical script may dore are so much possible variant, uploading now

I chose not to use multiply because your example was lighter, more pastel looking, and to reduce the transparency is very simple. You need to assign it an alpha channel before you duplicate it though. PSP has alpha channels so you should be familiar with them. Jolie just made a first rate tut about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9aZdPqs ... r_embedded

yes multiply will darken, while lowering opacity may weaken colors and contrast , this may be corrected with curve but ,in practice the color and contrast and luminosity shift may be esthetically pleasurable, and a correction not worth

it is not strictly needed add the alpha layer for merging, somehow gimp do its magic and merge well the layer also if there is not an alpha channel

BTW for merge I do NOT intend merge down
once the top layer mode is changed and opacity dosed just do
Layer/New from visible
OR Edit/copy VISIBLE + Edit/paste as/new image

that allow to save the result but also to go back to experiment with other modes o

I don't use psp at all really except to change some tubes to .png files...I cant be bothered with psp really but I do use the psp groups to get ideas from them. I am well familiar with alpha channels via GIMP. I use alpha channel on everything. I'l have a look at Jolies tut as well...thanks for all the input on this I really appreciate it. For now its bedtime for me I'll check it out in the morning.

Here are a couple plaid tutorials you can look at.

PhotoMaster's Simple Plaid Tutorial

Easy Plaid

A little later: Oh, I just found PhotoComix's treatment of your plaid.

http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?p=21733#p21733

I did a little experimenting on my own and came up with this. I filled a 1000 x 1000px image with a red, white and black pattern. Did a crop and a pixel stretch. Duplicated the layers and rotated one -45 degrees and the other 45 degrees and made the top layer 50% opacity. Used the crop tool to crop it to 700 x 700px. Merged the two layers. If you want, I will give a more detailed description about what I did.

Open your image
Image
Colors/Info/Smooth Pallet - Create your size when dialog pops up
I set mine to 200x200 and depth of 50
Image
Make sure to maximize the pallet image
Duplicate the pallet layer - select the top layer
Rotate to your liking i used 90 clockwise.
set the opacity to 50 or whatever percent you like
Results

Looks good Rod.

Don't know if Akky wants her plaid on the straight or on the bias (diagonal).

I like this and have had fun playing. I tried Rod's method of taking a picture and making it into stripes and O's idea of turning the pattern. So far I have came up with these.
