And one more - 4 way flip supposed to be seamless i have not checked yet. :)

Image

EDIT: Using liquid rescale i scaled the image to half its size and tried a tiling and it does indeed seem to be seamless.

I do not understand what is wanted do in this thread. Enlarge tiles textures without noticeable imperfections or repetitive patterns? If so, I'm very interested and I hope you find the best way to do this with GIMP :gimp
If the new Resynthesizer not working well for this, perhaps the probem should be reported to the developer.

I believe repetitive texture patterns is what is being researched here YAFU.

Good to see you again by the way. :)

For creating seamless patterns as from generic images, G'MIC provides several powerful filters under the "Array & Frames" category, among which the most effective one is the "Array [faded]" filter.

Choosing the not seamless picture you posted before as the input image, this is the tileable texture produced by the filter in question when setting both the "X-tiles" and "Y-tiles" sliders to 1:

Otherwise, you might simply resort to the "Make Seamless" filter integrated by default on GIMP, even if I think you already tried this method.
Anyway, here is how this plugin modify your starting texture by making it perfectly seamless:

YAFU, you are using Blender, you know how it works when you try to UV map a texture to object's surface.
When you don't have a huge size texture you have to go with seamless tiles to UV map huge surfaces like backgrounds, walls, floors, etc.
Having a small size texture leaves me two options: to go with low quality render results or use seamless tiles for better quality.
Besides, sometimes you don't want to scale up object in UV wrapper because pattern/texture details (like bricks) should be proportional
to other objects in Blender scene.

@Gino D Thanks Gino! The only thing that stops me from using GMIC is that it is very slow. Usually I'm dealing with huge size textures
(3000 x 3000 px and above) and then have to make a seamless tile out of it. GMIC is extremely slow of such big images and speed is an
important factor for me because i have to texture a lot of objects. The same with Resynthesizer plugins.
BTW, speedwise, Redfield plugin is a winner so far, it creates seamless tiles in a second

It looks like a very good program according to the screenshots, Rod.
Unfortunately it won't run on my Win 7. Program's very old (doesn't mean bad), could be Win 7 compatibility issues.
Tried to run it with Win Vista settings to no avail :(

Hey, I am a newbie with Blender. The UV mapping is far away from my knowledge.
Thanks for the explanation!

Thanks Rod!

rod: wow! you found the s'tiles program :)! that used to be one of my favourites, i used it for all my pattern making needs. the filters are really fun to play with, but my favourite in that program is the seamless scroll image function, i always wish gimp had the same tool.
k1tesseraena: i installed and ran a copy of s'tiles on my computer some time last autumn and i'm on win7. didn't have any problems running it, but the the quality of the resulting images isn't all that good, i think.

K1TesseraEna i do own a license for Filter Forge Pro 3 and Beta Pro 4 so if you need a seamless tile just holler at me.As far as i know FF doesn't except an empty image for tiling (Yet), but i will ask the devs about that.
But FF has so many textures out there (about 5,000 and counting), that i am sure you can find one made in FF and can be made seamless.

Image

And of course with the editor at my disposal i can tweak any of them to my desire.Distortion, size, color, lighting. :bigthup

I do not mind doing this for you if you would like.

Cool stuff Rod; running it in my XP VM (and also installed it via Sandboxie because I'm of the paranoid type; lol) and it works great. Not sure what the issue is for Win7 but since several folk said it wouldn't work, I didn't bother. That's what virtualization is for; try it and you'll like it. lol

May run in Ubuntu via wine, but too lazy to try that. :)

I am guessing it will run in Fedora via wine. :bigthup
Now you have a new toy to play with Lyle.I can't wait to see your creations.

Using the old Resynthesizer (have issues with new Resynthesizer using this technique), Select all, select shrink (25%), Select invert then run Resynthesizer to tile horizontal/vertical. Also adjusted the contrast to my taste. Not a perfect solution, but a free one. :)

Hello Lyle.
What Resynthesizer version are you using?
I assume that with old version you mean 0.16 version. I think I have the version 1.0.1 because plugin information mention it is from 2010.
Now I see that there is a 2.0 version:
https://github.com/bootchk/resynthesize ... /ChangeLog

Well, I've done this with Resynthesizer 1:

Perhaps the result can be improved, because I do not know exactly how to set the variables.

I have both also and the older version (executable binary), seems to work much better than the newer python version for this kind of operation.

Ok, this is the result using Resynthesizer 0.16:
Image
If you want compare both images (v1 and v0.16) dont look at center because center is source image.

I have created an image (1200x1200) with white background (I had had some problems if I used transparent backgrounds.). I have pasted the source image in the center. Then I selected with "Fuzzy select tool" the white outside. And applied Map > Resynthesize:
In "Options" tab, I have marked the three options in "Output".
In "Tweaks" tab:
Neighbourhood size: 100
Search thoroughness: 500
Sensitivity to outliers: 0.12

In Resynthesizer v1 in "Options" tab I have had to select the source image as "Texture source". In Resynthesize v0.16 that is not necessary.
Edit:
In the method I had used before, I realized that it was not necessary to paste the source image on the white image. My mistake is because I had tried creating a transparent image, and does not work on transparent backgrounds.
So, just open the source image and then create a new image with white background. Apply Resynthesizer on this new image choosing the source image as "texture source". In this way you will not notice that the center does not match the rest.
====
Edit 2:
I compiled Resynthesizer v2.0 and this is the result:
Image
So you can compare V0.16 v1.0.1 and v2.0. I did not notice a big difference.

I think it is possible to better match the source image in the center with the rest, if the filter is applied on the center this time, choosing as source texture the new image we got. It's a matter of doing more tests.

Forgot about the better way to use Resynthesizer. The new version works great with this too. Just open your image, create a solid fill (I use white) on top layer, then open a new image set to smaller dimensions then your target (I set it for 640 by 640) and then run resynthesizer as follows:

Result (yes it's seamless; did not adjust contrast this time):
