Now Deviantart has a excellent alternative to classic upload (a alternative no much know but much better ) called sta.sh

A uploader for DA gallery seems complex if not impossible but a uploader for sta.sh (that basically is a free 10gb storage place for DA users , yes each has 10GB and no form to fill to store there , and everything dropped there may be quickly posted in the gallery ) should be possible

would be really cool
here some info on DA sta.sh http://help.deviantart.com/441/

Looks like someone will develope one soon. Then it's a matter of just adjusting the line to the install path for the app.

From the website-
Via Applications:

In the future you will be able to upload via your favorite application! We currently have an API that allows developers to create mobile and desktop applications that link to your Sta.sh account. These applications will be available through what ever means the developer chooses to distribute them, and any issues regarding these 3rd party applications will need to be discussed with the developers of these apps. deviantART help staff will not be able to assist you with any unofficial applications.

Correct log in address (the one on the site is incorrect) -
https://sta.sh/login/?referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fsta.sh%2F#

I attached the links-script.scm with the url added. You can launch the website with this script.
Place the script in your scripts folder and go to Filters>Script-Fu>Refresh Scripts or restart Gimp.
You will find the link under Help>Links>Sta.sh along with various other helpful links.

This is an alternative until an upload DA app is developed. :)

It calls the Sta.sh website pretty good. It does ask for a log in though. You should be able to just use your Deviant login (which is what i did), or create a new one.
Also the allowable space is only 2 gigs for free users. So use it sparingly. :)

Thank you, Rod.
I think that you forgive ?
Added the "links-script.scm" to "Web-browser-help.scm" (http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=395&p=19368%20#%20p19368) and by the way I added a couple of my favorites ...

Nice one Rod!
I had a look at your code to see if it's possible to add Picasa without Picasa installed locally. I found it would require more code than I wanted to take on.

I use Picasa web but I don't use Picasa locally. I prefer Zoner Photo Studio and normally use it to upload to Picasa.

The best solution I could find without Picasa installed locally was another Gimp plugin similar to yours called, GimpPublishr.
http://code.google.com/p/altcanvas/wiki/GimpPublishr

I can not seem to get this to work. It crashes with this:

Sorry!!!

The publishr plugin has hit an Unknown Exception. Following is the traceback of the exception. You can help improve this plugin by reporting this exception.

All you have to do is press "Yes" to report the exception
