patchwork quilts

Does anyone know if there is a script or plug in which would transform something into a patchwork kind of image...much like what I add here....or similar.

My wife quilts a lot. I've been designing quilt blocks with a CAD system and find it to be fun. I did have a plugin that made an effect very similar to that but i can't remember the name. It's a combination stroke thing and it's been a long time. if i remember it I'll let you know.

Sorry I should clarify that, it was very confusing when I read it. because of one really big stroke I had, the more I try to remember something the more it slips away. Then when I don't care it pops into my head. The term stroke doesn't have anything to do with a plugin or effect.

When i say stroke thing it tend to confuse people, I need to find a better term.

Two filters I posted on an earlier quilt thread do something like you want, I even posted some examples.

Paul Sherman's collection of GIMP scripts at GIMPHelp.org includes a patchwork script.

I've modified the script so it is in Filters/Distorts/Patchwork...

Not quite what I was looking for although it may do if I cant get the squarish blocks...I had been looking at that as an alternative. But you know me...always looking for the obscure!!

This is one of those things that looks like it should be very simple but ends up making you crazy.

First you have to get your patchwork together, then you have to "sew" the seams.

Remember RobA's multifill script that he modified for me to use random images? It works like a charm for patching together multiple patterns. All you have to do is make the black and white grid, and set up a folder for the quilt patterns you want to use in it. Grids are easy to make via Render/Patterns/Grids.

I found that ripple on a grid layer (by itself) makes very realistic stitching. This is an example of RobA's multifill script with ripple applied to the grid:

very cool mahv, looks like the satin stitch but a little further apart. Hope you didn't prick your finger while doing that...

Yes, just turn off the grid line layer.

it all looks very nice....I have to get in and try it again but I wanted to make something out of the images Ihad...much like we did with the plaids I guess, so that the patches blended in with what I wanted to do...I'mma have another try later today.

Hope you forgive me for using your ready-made patchwork, mahv.

What I did:

Added a new transparent layer to the top of the patchwork image.

Since the patchwork was 640x640, I made an 80x80 square, filed it with white then Filters > Decor > Add Bevel and made the setting 10, unchecked Work on copy. Color to alpha to get rid of the white. Copied the results to the clipboard.

Filled the transparent layer above the patch work image.
