I would like GIMP's default tool options to automatically save when I exit GIMP and then be there when I re-open it.

For some reason that no longer is happening. The last brush and color I used is saving and are still there when I reopen GIMP.

I've tried clicking Restore Default Tool options and I get the message that the default options will be there the next time I open GIMP. That doesn't happen.

It used to be that when I opened GIMP, the Paintbrush tool was selected and the brush was Circle (11). That is no longer happening.

Even when I click reset to default values in the Toolbox options, the default one for the Paintbrush does not restore.

I can't imagine what has gone amiss if you chose save tool options now and restore defaults. It's like your save tool options on exit box has been ticked on and won't turn off.

A computer geek once taught me this. No idea if it will work but you could try it.
tick Save tool options on exit. Click OK. Then untick it and click OK.


Otherwise you might have to delete the rc files in the .gimp-2.6 folder. I don't know which one stores this info.

I tried that and it didn't work either.
One of the things that bothers me is that when I click the reset button in the toolbox paintbrush options is that the default does not restore. I think whatever is happening there may be the problem. Whether it is in Prefs or the rc file I don't know.

I removed the toolrc file in the gimp2.6 folder to another folder while gimp was closed and reopened gimp and the same old stuff I had been using showed up so I have a feeling it I might have to go after the one in the gimp 2.0 folder.

Do this on the Input Devices devices page, not the Tool Options page.

That worked! That included everything ... fonts, gradients, colors, brushes. I really like to start with everything reset to default values. I know others want the settings saved so it's a matter of preference there.

It changes the settings to default, but when I use different colors, pattterns, gradients and close Gimp. The changed tool options are there when I close and reopen Gimp. I must be missing something somewhere to make the settings stick.
