Hi nunulka! Nice to see you again. I saw your post over in UFSC and had something ready to post for you here.

What I did was use the Ellipse Selection Tool and fit it to the lens on the magnifying glass and cut then pasted and chose New Layer for the floating selection. Then I lowered the opacity of it to about 35. That's an amount that you can change as you wish.

I'm attaching the xcf file so you can look at the layers. I don't know what you did to magnify the other image so I'll leave that up to you.

Thank you O, I used this tutorial http://tutorialblog.org/photoshop-magni ... -tutorial/ to make the effect, however without adittional effects. What I would prefer more is to add a bit spheric effect caused by the lens. Would you know to do it with the shoes sole?

Yours is on the left, mine on the right. With your selection still on in the xcf file, I used Filters > Light and Shadow > Apply Lens. I set the Lens Refraction Index at 2 (experiment with the setting). Later note: In Gimp 2.8, Apply Lens has been moved to Filters > Distorts > Apply Lens

Lol I looked for the lens effect before and couldn´t find it. I did it as you suggested O. Then I copied a small part of the lens and set the opacity of it to about 17. The main part of the lens I set to about 20. Here is the result or do you have some more ideas to make it even better?

I looked at the PhotoShop tutorial, would you rather the lens looked like the one in the PS tutorial? The shading all around? Yours looks good but I think the lens itself could be improved.

I'm going to experiment with the lens and see what I come up with. Going to try feathering the selection. Also do you want to keep the blue color of the lens or go to white?

Here is what I did.
  • I selected the glass area on the layer with the very long number.
    Grew the selection by 1
    Saved it as a path.

  • I made a new transparent layer below that long-number layer and named it lensfeather. Select that layer if it isn't.
I feathered the selection 60, inverted the selection and filled it with blue.
    Unselected.
    Select > From Path
    Invert the selection and Delete.

All was done on the lensfeather layer. Try different amounts of feathering to see what you like best. I also put a color swatch in the attached xcf file for the blue color (b2c5d4). Also, the reflection you made, you might want to lighten it a little and add it back into the image.

Wow, it is very nice, O. Now it looks more realistic. I will try to do it too.

An after thought here. I made a reflection using the paths tool and rounded the edges by dragging them just a little and filled the selection with blue (inset). Gaussian blurred it 5, and dragged it to where I wanted it and lowered the opacity. Learned that little trick from saulgoode. You can skip the blur if you like it better with sharp edges.

Hi O, I am back. I did it as you suggested before. What do you think now?

Yours is nice, just maybe I would make the reflection a bit lighter. Just for trying. What do you think?
