Not really good news Erisian; only thing that got fixed apparently is the tif bug. Jpeg file save preview size option still shows 1.3G (i.e., error), and you can't have both PSPI and User Filter paths simultaneously. Oh well. Posted at GIMPUsers on that thread alc59; just call me the dissapointed. Doesn't look like the gimprc conflict issue will ever get patched so sad for me. :)

Sorry to hear that Lyle. I haven't downloaded 2.8 yet - I think I'm going to see what others think before I do.

It's still worth it for the TIF patch Erisian. I actually completely removed rc1 (not the user .gimp2.8 directory of course; just the program) and installed the full 2.8 64-bit release so I know they fixed the TIF bug. Since I do like mm's sigmoidal contrast plugin, I'm happy that at least I don't have to use the hack anymore to get this plugin to work, but mm's labcurves plugin still bugs out, so I added a comment at Mickey's thread at the registry and hope he will find a work-a-round to it since labcurves is a cool plugin in (both need TIF; wish Mickey would have used PNG. lol). As for the jpeg preview size, I like using RIOT's plugin for saving JPEGs and PNGs anyway, so I don't need that feature. Again, I don't usually paint so haven't checked to see if the brush drag issue when color management is enabled still exists or not, but I believe someone else said that it still does. I'd rather wish the developers would have waited to get a few more bugs patched before releasing 2.8. I'm patient. lol

:)

Better an old Gimp than a buggy Gimp. :)

After the initial launch, it appears to run quick after the re-launch Rod; very quick launch as was rc1. I just verified that brush lag still exists when you edit large (not that large) images anyway. Even resizing the image to 640pix width by 642pix height (the test image I am using) still showed signifcant lag when choosing a brush size at 100px. Again, at least TIF bug has been nipped in the bud. :)

I installed and immediately found problems while attempting to setup my Wacom tablet in the preferences.

Tried a bunch of times to enable it. Each time the result was gimp freezing. Disappointing to say the least.

Lyle, are you saying this new Gimp 2.8 still has problems. I just came over to Windows ready to install it. I want the 64-bit and don't see it.

If you have a 64-bit OS, but believe the installer will automatically install the 64-bit version Molly. :)

I have not been able to build successfully. well, I can build fine, but it will crash. So, no release from me until I know what the issue is.

Partha will most likely compile a version for 64 bit Molly.
I was able to get GAP installed as well as all my adobe plugins, and GMIC.
Userfilter does indeed have an issue finding the guf folder.Didn't editing the gimprc fix this?
It seems fine to me but then again i only use it for mostly design.

Gimp-2.8 - I installed it (didn't load it yet)
I re installed gimp-2.6.12
Changed the splash image to my own (both 2.6, and 2.8)
Started gimp-2.6.12 - ran fine
Started Gimp-2.8 - ran fine
Added GAP-2.7 to Gimp-2.8 plugins folder through the program directory - runs fine
I have Gimp-2.6.12 installed in Gimp-2.0
I have Gimp-2.8 installed in Gimp-2

Lyle Filters Unlimited has the same filters and a better interface imho than UserFilter. I have both installed btw.
And it runs excellent.

Next i will change over to the larger preview plugins. :)

Nice job developers. I can not wait for Gimp-2.10 :ninja :ninja

Rod,

I can build fine too. :) Question is, does it run reliably for you? I ran it through the debugger (gdb) and there are heap block modifications past the requested size (crrrraashhh :) ).

Lyle, Can you check the version of libtiff-x.dll included with your build? Is it 3 or 5?

Thanks,
Partha

Still have to turn color management off to avoid brush lag on certain images

Reinstalled 2.6 and I once again have pressure sensitivity!!
It's so strange that the Gimp team would release 2.8 when there are things broken with it. Weird way of doing things.
