First of all, Mcaffee is a known false alarm magnet. (as well as a resource hog!) I have never heard of Lavasoft so I can't vouch for it. Let me run Avast Pro on it. Be back in a sec.

According to avast it is clean, Also unzipped it and ran another scan. Still clean. Ran it in sandbox mode and still clean. Mcaffee issue again.(My opinion get rid of it. Avast gives away a free year at pro level. defiantly worth the money to but it as well.) You could however have a virus on your system now. Run some scans and run avast to find out if your clean. Some virus hide themselves in your downloads. Knowing mcaffe, it itself could be infected.

I'm running Win 7 with Microsoft Essentials. Microsoft's virus checker. I downloaded it the day PhotoComix posted it and there is no problem with it. Must be a false positive. Runs great.
Thanks
PS
I have run all of the fore-mentioned and MS Essentials is free and has never let me down.
MS Essentials

By the way migra Welcome to Gimp Chat.

Dump Mcafee, I use Avast Pro too, you can upgrade the registration every year free. I have never used Microsoft Essentials so can't comment on it.

I cannot get rid of McAffee because it is in my company's pc.

This is what i get from Lavasoft's Ad aware at my home pc:

Description: gimprun.exe
Family Name: Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT

Logfile created: 1/02/2012 21:45:35
Ad-Aware version: 9.6.0
Extended engine: 3
Extended engine version: 3.1.2770

*********************** Definitions database information ***********************
Lavasoft definition file: 150.703
Genotype definition file version: 2011/09/21 13:56:01
Extended engine definition file: 11487.0

operating system: windows xp

I also have avast and this one says it is OK

It is probably a false positive as many of you suggest.

Thank you for the welcoming words.

I will continue using my various gimp installations (under xp, Mac and Linux) and will may be await to March when gimp 2.8 is out.

Hi, I am a new member of the forum. I have registered just for this message.

I am a user of Gimp for a couple years and was interested in trying these nearly final gimp 2.8. . I have downloaded this gimpvideo-2.7.5.7z from sourceforge, in two occasions with two different computers. Both tell me when I try to uncompress that there is a trojan in the file gimprun.exe. One was with MacAffe and the other with Lavasoft. I know the reputation of Photocomix as a dedicated gimp supporter so I am just puzzled.

Regards

Hy Migra thank for the trust

i may assure that there are no trojan or virus or adware the report is a false positive what is bad is that we already advice Mcaffe and Panda about, long ago (from the first portable version of gimp 2.7) without get any reply and even less a fix

personally i use avast (the free version) as always-running-antivirus and about once a week i switch it off to do a complete deep scan with Malwarebite
(it is not good use more then 1 antivirus they often conflict )

Malwarebite is also good , even the free version but fine-tuned for bigots:
it seems very concerned about me visiting sites where may be also "mature content", here i don't mean porn ,but just partial nudity, and in case just block the whole site and mark it as "dangerous"

so i don't use it as "resident" antivirus but just for a weekly scan.

Migra i seen only now your last message
Panda antivirus is really crap but Lavasoft was not bad, so as all decent antivirus should have a way to add a file to a "ignore" or "White list"

i tell you also because i fear that gimp 2.8 will not solve the problem, or more exactly will be fine but i doubt that the "almost official" version will include also support for python scripts or plugin as mathmap ,gmic or gap preinstalled.

to do that , and let to users the possibility to update easily the third party components (i.e gmic additional script etc) i need to maintain separate the gimp "core" to all the third party addon and so to use a modified portable version

and gimprun.exe is essential for the portable version (at least that from Partha, that is the one i prefer at the moment

BUT PLEASE if you are Lavasoft client, send them a short note to report the false positive including the download link

I already did but i am not a client and maybe for that my report was ignored

Photocomix, thank you for the attention. I use at home Avast and it does not give me any altert on gimprun. Avast is my antiviurs at home. I also have lavasoft in this computer lavasoft ad aware but it is also a free unregistered version, which I use very rarely. I have used it now because of the warning at the computer at work with McAffee. So I will try and see if I can contact Lavasoft but I am not a registered user.

I am an always learning user of Gimp. I have ocasionally used GMIC and have followed some of the tutorials by you here in Gimpchat and i think also elsewhere such as in Deviantart?.

I look forward to all the improvements 2.8 is incorporating such as the new brushes, the additional patterns, the GEGL, the single window (for those who may be expecting it, not me), etc.... I find some of the filters and scripts you have put in the package very interesting. But I am not a Gimp power user (yet?). I do think that for most of the average home users Gimp is far better than Photoshop or the other alternatives, and this also applies i.m.h.o. for some of the profesional users also.

Migra,

You don't have to use all the extras that PC has put together if you don't want to. It will be there when you do want to use them. :)

As for the virus thing, it keeps rearing it's ugly head. :) I built gimprun.exe and I use it all the time as well with the portable version.

Enjoy,
Partha

Hy Partha sure he doesn't have to do if he doesn't want but the false positive will remain if using your portable.
(and i suppose in a Company computer only the portable may be used )

But about the extra i put in my main point is that could be all removed with a single move (deleting the .2.7 folder that would be recreated empty at next gimp load ) or in little groups ( by removing the corresponding subfolder inside .gimp-2.7/plug.ins and/or .gimp-2.7 script )

but anyway that was the first version i must remember to upload the newer more polished
(upload is a easy and quick operation ..the pain is put together all the credits, the referral links and so on..)

Happy to hear you i was just thinking to wrote you ... i did fix my tablet so i was impatient to know if you had any luck with gimpainter

I don't think the issue (at least with the virus) is what you put in, though other issues could be it. :)

Sorry, I have been busy - end of year, out of town etc. and also really getting to know my Mac and figuring out how to create an app so people can use gimp-2.8.app. :)
