how do install.... gtk+-2.24.8

I used Linux in 2008 and now for about 1 week.... a lot has changed as well..... LOL before you installed everything via terminal.... now it is a combination in Ubuntu

I have been looking for tutorials etc.... even looking for code (to understand what I am doing...might be able to figure things out myself that way.... ) LOL

Don't take this the wrong way, but at this point, I recommend that you re-orient yourself with Linux and then venture to install a complex piece of software such as Gimp.

I do have GIMP 2.6.11 on there - even tweaked it a bit.... adding a whole bunch of things.... I did find some ubuntu documentation that I am reading....

I have mostly had people tell me what to write in terminal and I have cut and pasted that info..... But I am wanting to know how to figure out what to write myself.... I have done html code etc (not that this is like that- but I am used to looking at code etc and figuring out how to do it myself)

I think this ubuntu doc will help a lot....

My antivirus apparently thinks Gimprun.exe is a trojan :-s

...on a positive note, cage transform works now without crashing gimp. Yay!

A well known issue. See the thread on Flickr as well. Unfortunately, I cannot control what an anti-virus program decides is or is not a virus.

Thanks for the feedback about cage transform. Glad you like the new build. :)

I have read that GIMP releases are often pushed back a lot.... so will GIMP 2.8 be out soon??? or probably not???

If not, I really need to figure 2.7.5 out.... I do NOT like have multiple windows open (not sure if it ubuntu and how you get to multiple windows in each program) It is a pain and takes awhile to scroll with "alt tab"....

I have to get this done by this weekend - we start school next week again and I won't have the time to mess with setting everything up, like I do now.... :(

Gimp 2.7.5 is practically as the future gimp 2.8 now most of the new features (including single windows mode) seems complete and sufficiently stable even if is important save often

and doesn't not require much time to set up :
you may move and arrange the windows till happy then go to Windows/single window to lock them, add the error console (it is one of the methods to redirect popping out error messages, but being still able to read them if useful)

and last enter in Preference/windows management to save the preference (there is there a "save setting now" button)

just few minutes needed, more only if you want customize more

There are a few things that are supposed to be released with Gimp-2.8 that do not seem to be in this last dev version though, like close buttons for each open image tab, and rubberband selection of cage nodes, as well as editing of cage after an initial transformation.
The new Gimp warp tool (IWARP on steroids), and the seamless clone tool should be part of Gimp-2.10. :)
More information can be found here.

Unfortunately i can not find the gimp painter src files.Do you know where i can download them PC?
Found the 2.7 src here - http://git.sourceforge.jp/view?p=gimp-p ... 7ae;sf=tgz
I downloaded the gimp-2.2.7 zip portable also (as i don't want to install it), and i will have a look at that.

I found this also
http://en.sourceforge.jp/projects/gimp- ... ge_id=6799

I will try and compile it tonight. :)

I like 2.7.5, but I hope the artifacting issue I've been experiencing will somehow not be present in 2.8. It is quite annoying.

What video card do you have in your system?

ATI Radeon HD 5670. Do you think that could somehow be causing the issue with 2.7.5 (and previously 2.7.4)?

I am thinking that is a definitely possibility. Though I have an Nvidia card and I am seeing it there as well. Leads me to believe it is probably glib or gtk+.

I haven't seen anyone else mention the same issue though, so I'm not sure if it's isolated or widespread.

Is gtk+ something that's updateable? Perhaps I have a version that's causing a conflict.

You can download GTK + updates but those are for your developers, and user interface creation ( Gimp Toolkit )..
You should have the latest GTK runtimes when you install Gimp each time.As it comes with it.
I have noticed this with Gimp-2.6.11 also. It is most probably GTK. Remember also these are dev releases and the actual Gimp-2.8 release will contain many less bugs.It should anyway.

That's what I'm hoping for that it's just a dev issue and will not be in the final version. I'm pleased with it otherwise. I figured out how to use brush dynamics. VERY useful for doing line art.

Yes you can do some real nice things with brush dynamics.Especially stroking a path or selection with the brush. ;)

It would have to be an upstream fix since Gimp relies on GTK+ and not the other way around.
