Hello all,

Guess not a surprise anymore due to advance notices by some people? :)

I just uploaded Gimp 2.7.4 unofficial with new splash screen and all.

Few things to keep in mind:
1. Please read through what I posted on the website (www.partha.com). :)
2. Please uninstall Gimp 2.7.3 before installing 2.7.4 It will only make your life easier.
3. Please don't use any external animated PNG. It is built into this version.
4. You can simply type in a location URI in the location box to open an image on the internet.
5. Jpeg 2000 should work (file extension jp2).
6. Postscript should work - if not, please let me know.
7. Lots of useful plugins like aumask, satequalizer, simple-bilateral blur (perfect for doing makeup stuff) etc.
8. G'MIC official 1.5.0.2 version is available on the website.

Oh yeah, check out the RGGJAN portable - you will be surprised. The author has not done any development since June and so I am only providing a portable version.

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks and enjoy.

I apologize for ruining the surprise but i just had to post that annoying apng image. :lol
This version works real nice.Another great compile Partha thanks a lot. :)

Just a couple things to add -
I actually was able to install Gimp-2.7.3 and Gimp-2.7.4 side by side (if you decide to keep both)
Launch it, go to Edit/pref/plugins and change the directory to the gimp-2.7.3 plugins folder to the one for gimp-2.7.4 and you are all set.

Themes work very nicely
PSPI works very nicely
If you decide to add those that is. :)

Oh and i just have to comment on that beautiful piece of artwork you created for the new 2.7.4 splash screen.
I didn't know you had such a good eye for colors.Very nice.

That's about all i have to add... except what is RGGJAN?

Thanks for the update of G'MIC, Partha ! I've just put your name in the contributors list. You should appear for the next version then :)

Hy Partha

I already read the descrition on your site
That about PostScript seems conflicting with your descrition here on GT

Quote:
6. Postscript should work - if not, please let me know.

That suggest Postscript working out of the box
But on your site...

Quote:
PostScript should work if you have any of the following requirements: if you have Ghostscript installed on your machine, then it should match the OS architecture – 64-bit OS requires 64-bit Ghostscript. Also, for it to work, either put the Ghostscript bin directory in your path, or provide the environmental variable GS_PROG. This environment variable must point to the gswinXXc.exe location (XX = 64 for 64-bit and 32 for 32-bit). If this does not work, please drop me a line. Also, if there is interest, I can include Ghostscript in my builds. Ghostscript can be obtained from the usual place.

That on the contrary suggest some fiddling required before opening Postscript files.

Well to be honest i just need to switch computer to check wich of the 2 is correct,
yes i already installed on my Desktop and till now EVERYTHING works fine till now (i didn't try yet apng and PS , but everything seems fine with jpg2000 )
:jumpclap :jumpclap :jumpclap :jumpclap

Hi PC,

You are right. There is some fiddling required. However, this fiddling has always been part of the PostScript issue with Gimp. Hence my mentioning that Postscript should work (provided you do the fiddle).

I also stated on my website that if there is interest, I will include Ghostscript in the future and then no fiddling would be necessary.

Thanks PC for the whirl. :)

:hehe Well now i installed the 64 bit on the notebook (with 7 )and the 32 on the desktop (xp)

But no idea or feedback for the standard version , in both cases i had chosen the portable version :hehe

well not only because, in my opinion is the most safe & robust architture on Win, but mostly because as now i need several version of gimp on same computer and the portable offers the most simple solution for that (...well there are also VM, but why complicate my life even more my life with fightings with VMs
More i do no trust much test done on emulated OS or VM .. )

PS
A good friend is convinced that test a program on emulated OS or even VM is how test a lover skill using that plastic dolls from sexy shop...

Hi,

I created a directory called "Nodoka-Midnight" in gimp-2.7/themes and droped in the gtkrc file from gimp-2.7, then changed preferences to select the new directory Nodoka-Midnight. I closed and re-started the GIMP but the new theme did not take effect.

Any help?

joseph

Hi Joseph,

Can you send screenshots before and after the theme? There is no reason the theme should not take affect.

Thanks,
Partha

Hi everyone.

In version 2.7.3, the copy/paste or dragging an image into GIMP didn't work. Fortunately, it was fixed on 2.7.4 BUT, still, GIMP can't stand the WMF files. Yes, I know, that obsolete format from MS but believe it or not, I still have to deal with those quite frequently. GIMP 2.6.11 can handle that perfectly.

And Partha, you deserve an statue!

Best Regards.

GIMPer.

PD: Still couldn't figure out how to install 2.7.4 in Ubuntu 11.04.

Hi,

Well, in fact, I managed to install 2.7.3 by adding:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/matthaeus123/m ... svn/ubuntu

To the repositories. In theory, just giving update/upgrade should do the trick but so far no luck.

Greetings.

GIMPer.

Partha, could you please clarify some parts here:
http://www.partha.com/articles/groundwork.html

Quote:
Download the cross-built mingw GTK+ availabe from OpenSUSE.

Turns the word "available" into a link, please.

Quote:
You must download these builds for GTK+-2.0 and GLIB.

It's not clear what that means. Maybe exact file names would help...

Quote:
From the GNOME binary/source website, download the following

Again, turn the word "website" into a link.

Quote:
intltool-0.40.6

This file name should end with .zip right?

Quote:
from the flamingtext website (see sidebar)

I don't see any sidebars, so maybe just put a direct link to the file?

Thanks.

Hi,

I will try to put up the build instructions more precisely and with the links you suggested. It definitely needs cleaning up and updated. :)

Thanks for the detailed feedback.
