If you stroke a path using the neon py script as a grey scale then you could use [Color] [Map] [Gradient Map] (while the new gradient is selected in your gradient tool pallet), to change the grey scale into your pre-made gradient. The pre-made gradient would have to be made as half of the gradient though, as you can see in the image below.

I like espers rendition as a logo though. Logos generally are flat or beveled to be printed in small sizes.

I agree that Espers is quite good. The one I'm working on is not for print but for the website. it will sit inside bike spinning bike sprokets.
I tried the method you described here and got close but it creates a red line in the middle with white border. How did you stroke it with greyscale. I tried changing it to greyscale first but it didn't help.

There's a little box next to the gradient in the toolbox that will allow you to change the direction of the gradient being used.

Okay, I know this doesn't look good as that's why I'm looking for a better way to do it but here is a sample of the pattern that I have pieced together as an example of what I'm attempting to create. I want to be able to do this whilst maintaining the consistency of the gradient around bends and corners. . Does this help?

Thanks again! here's the file.

ok, i have it

now please explain what you actually want

what do you mean with rounded ?
do you want the text more rounded instead of rectangular, as at the end of the B and the E ?

EDIT: i played a bit around for an example what bevelling might do

also i noticed you set the resolution to 600 - that might be a bit high, but we have experts who can give better advice on that

Image

Heya Esper.
I set it to 600 dpi as I was making it bigger thinking that it would help me smooth the lines when I was scaling up but I've figured out how to do that now so i'm going to reduce it to about 200.

as far as i know 300dpi is standard for printing

you might want to have a look at this thread for more info:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6579

EDIT: just tried to treat an angular shaped path with neon.py
for the gradient just the default fg-bg black/white and it looks just great !

As long as the path is one connected piece it will be smooth. You can connect pathes by right clicking a path and choosing merge all visible paths in the paths pallet. Then click an endpoint and then hold down the Ctrl key and click another end point.

That NEON script is the same one I used for the one I posted. It is a great script but, I couldn't find a way to make the red white and blue without flattening it.
Maybe ofnuts could add that feature. or Not... :pengy

Yea, maybe a new script could make it greyscale only and then have an option that does the color by calling the Gradeint Map filter. And a way to choose the gradient.

It's hard to make a really cool logo, I love how bike is spelled out into a little bike!

Thanks 2-Ton!

Guys you have certainly got some mojo workin that I can't get to happen. I can not get the Neon plug in to stroke the path in a liner fashion. I'm sure I'm just missing a simple something but no matter the shape or path I try this is the result:

just a wild guess but do you have the gradient tool on linear and the offset turned off ?

Can you attach your XCF? (and the gradient)?

I took the liberty of creating all the paths for you.All you need do now is download the XCF file and use map to gradient on each layer with your color choices of bg and fg.

I also created each letter with separate pieces so you can erase as needed to make the gradient look better.
XCF is attached.

Thi isn't the path with which you produced the image in post #50.

Let's make it simple. Create a path which is a straight horizontal line. Apply the filter. Do you get something like this:

It's the same result Ofnut. I also tried with the paths that Rod so kindly provided and it's still the same. This is what I get...

I've tried every adjustment for the gradients and paths that I can imagine and always get the same result.

Okay, regaining some sanity now.
The color element on the gradient mapping matrix was set to "flow" which I guess I must have done inadvertently when created the gradient or something????
So I've got it going in the right direction but I'm getting the neon type loop rather than the straight flow like Rod has.
Here is where I am now so if someone can help me understand how to get the gradient to single stroke the path I will be having a very happy day.....Image
