Nice attempt, it looks like the white and black parts need to be sharper.

esper: you know the plastic or glass script? i think the ps original looks a lot like the results of that script, maybe you should take a look at that.

#Esper:

Although is a water effect, I think part of it, the lighting, you can apply it to your purpose.

thanks he4rty

i have seen this tutorial before, its again with Lighting Effects

the cool thing about the PS effect, is that its all done with layereffects

the highlights are shrinked with an interesting curve, that doesnt seem to work in Gimp

you know, all these great text examples make me want to have a go at it myself :)

A while ago photocomix posted about text/logos on the old G'MIC forum and I made a quick test filter to check the idea (which worked fine). It would be quite easy to make vast numbers of text filters, but I wasn't sure if PC was going to do that himself and I don't like to steal ideas. Plus there's the problem of taking the fun out of using gimp to do it. Does anyone think it's worth making G'MIC text filters? I suppose you do have the advantage of a preview...

More than text filters, I think this could be interesting to have G'MIC filters that operates on simple black and white shapes (text or whatever) and add some relief/textures on them. I don't have so much time to go in this direction, but this is something I already thought about.

oh yes! that would be great! hope someone feels a sudden great urge to write that kind of g'mic filters, i work a lot more with shapes than with text and i would love it if there were filters like that in g'mic too.

is this hijacking the topic?

I played around with your gel text, Esper. I added an inverted drop shadow of X & Y = 0, blur = 30, Opacity = 100 and moved it below the bevel layers.

I used black text and then discarded it after doing the bevel and drop shadow.

I made the background, duplicated it and did alpha to selection and inverted and cut the top background layer.

Any here are my results.

I've added the xcf file of my layers if anyone wants to look.

Thank you Molly, Odin and AnMal. I'm thinking we need to get Graechan making us a script for it.

I told Graechan yesterday that I am going to have to make a special folder, just for his scripts so they will all be together. He is so good at it.
