1)Is inkscape free to download?

2)Can i make any 3d objects with it?(car bodies,boxes,people etc.)

3) Can i use images i make with inkscape and load them in gimp 2.6 and make changes to them such as color?

4)i may have further questions down the road so is there a inkscape forum page like this one?

i have a idea of what i want to do. and i need the answers to these questions first. thanks. if you respond please number your answer so i will know what question you are giving a answer to. this will limit the confusion. thanks :)

Inkscape is free, yes

i recommend this channel for learning the basics:
http://www.youtube.com/user/PhotoAdvanced2

you can modify stuff you made in IS with Gimp
for example its easier to modify (scale, stretch) text in IS
you can export the text as a png file and open it with Gimp to work on it some more, just like text you made in Gimp

there is also an Inkscape forum:

I'll add that you can export paths and SVG to Gimp as well, this will get better with GEGL. Inkscape and Gimp use the same palettes.
Good Inkscape and Gimp tutorial site.

For 3d objects you'll probably need Blender rather than Inkscape (also free) but there is a very steep learning curve.
