Wow, I did a tutorial by him before and he is excellent. I can't wait to try that one. Thank you Esper. Yours turned out great.
I might make that one into a text tutorial.

that's a neat tutorial - i prefer text, but tutor4u usually does a good job and i loved the wintry theme.
i tried to get all the winter i could into this picture, since it seems i won't get any for real this year :gaah.

Didn't care for the snow, so I left it out, but I did put a little icy texture behind it. More to color it than anything. This is what I got. Since it's semi transparent it looks a little pale against the forum background.

Nice job AnMal

I have never used this fire script before and I was just playing around with it a while ago, and you can do some very interesting things with it. Just Like I said a long time ago, there is no end to what goodies you can find in GIMP

@AnMal: Funny you should mention it. That's the jelly bean gloss recycled. All these tutorials seem to go so nice together, it'd be a shame not to make them work for their money.

I've always had trouble getting Blender to work but I watched one of his tutorials on it last month and actually got useable results. His Inkscape tuts are good too. I think every one of his that I've seen has been good. I never really found a good use for the flame tool until he made that one. Gimp has a few tools that I've never found useful nor have I ever seen anybody use them, the flame tool is one.
If I need a fractal I'll make it by other means. As far as I'm concerned they could leave out things like coffee stain, weave, Cubism, Van Gogh, and a few other useless things. I had a point but lost it somewhere so I'll end my tirade here.

Esper, I am trying to make a text tutorial out of this great video. I did another tute by him and I can't find his name anywhere. Can you tell me what it is so I can add it to my tute? Thanks.

Some people prefer text tutes so thought I would give it a go.

Ok, thank you Esper,
I just like to put the name of the person that did the video at the top of my text tute along with the link to his video. I looked all through the Links and couldn't find a name so I guess I will just have to call him by that name you gave.
He is extremely precise in his narrations and has a very clear voice for videos. :paint

my pleasure, molly

i agree about his narration and presentation, although i do find it a bit tedious that he explains everything for beginners
i mean after a while people should at least know how to fill a layer with color, create a new transparent layer, etc.
you know, basic stuff

Esper, I always feel that it is important to explain every detail so the beginners won't be discouraged when they try a tutorial. I think it is important to state whether the layer should be selected or unselected and we are are all beginners at one time or another.
Lots of people don't know how to select, invert or any of those things when they first look at GIMP, it is like looking at how to design a rocket.

So when I write a tutorial, I think NEWBIES and beginners.

ek22: recycled gloss, that's neat! never thought of doing that before :).

i agree with molly! it's a bit boring to get all the detail once you know all the basic steps, but it's worth it because when beginners can make the same stuff as the more experienced users it means so much for keeping them inspired to learn. besides, some of us have a tendency to do five or six different things at the same time and then i - eh, then those persons can easily get caught up in something else for a while and loose concentration on the tut, but then easily pick up all the threads again when they remember what they're supposed to be doing.
