Another recent experimentation session that yeilded more weirdness. Not really a tut cuz it's so simple.

Step 1. Filters>Render>Clouds>Solid Noise. Detail set to 1, X=1 and Y=4

Image

Step 2. Filters>Blur>Pixelize. Both height and width set to 50

Image

Step 3. Filters>GMIC>Artistic>Lylejk's Painting. Use default settings (hit Apply, but don't close yet)

Image

Step 4. Filters>GMIC>Artistic>Rodilius. Lower the amplitude to around 5

Image

Here it is again but with the pixelization set at 100.

Image

If you want a little perspective......well......Filters>GMIC>Deformations> (what else) Perspective!

Image

I just can't get enough GIMP!

That does look cool Drac. Before the Rodilius step, it almost looks like Legos made of glass. :)

I think you are right. I was gonna play with some other scripts and filters in conjuction with it but got sidetracked. PC should like this one as well, it's right up his alley.

Different input, but similar flow (minus Rodilius) in the creation of this seamless tile Drac. Again, thanks for the outline. :)

Draconian, I like those patterns. The Rodilius filter really makes them unique. Thanks for sharing your method.

Lyle, great glass pattern and colors. It reminds me of PhotoComix's "Eye Candy" patterns, but without the overwhelming symmetry and repeats.

Well, you gonna tell us how, or are you gonna keep it a secret? Great effect, I snagged the pattern.

OK; ran the Make Seamless Texture Script-fu with Tom's G'MIC metallic blended in (subtlely) to make the result a little more shiney. :)

Well without the settings I just can't get that stained glass look you got with the distortions n the middle of each square. This is what I got.

I tried the metallic look again and got this:

Who wouldda thunk it?

Definitely like your results Drac. Thinking more about it, there is a good chance I used some PS filters via Shellout, in particular, a cool Photokiller plugin preset called Glaze (the photoshop version; rarely use the stand-a-lone but I do have it). Also, a good chance I used some of the glass like results from Inkscape (again via Shellout call). Can't remember. I do pretty much every edit that I do at the seat of my pants and only generalize when I share steps since so many nuainces are involved (again, reason, I don't like doing tuts since I'm forced to outline steps; lol). :)

:hehe I know what you mean. I get to esperimentin' and stuble onto something like I did here and forget what I did. Fortunately this one was only a few easy steps.

You're still the king, Mr. Krolsy. (is that getting old yet?)

Draconian, how did you achieve seamlessness on the perspective image?

Seamless? On a perspective? You mean like to use for a pattern or are you referring to something else? All I did was use the GMIC filter to make the perspective. A one click trick.

I love the images obtained :bigthup

It is possible to obtain results with color (use the plasma filter at the beginning of tutorial)

Yes, seamless. I'm not talking about tileable. Compare my image with yours. Mine looks pieced together. Yours looks fluid, I guess.

Happy accident's often give the best results. When I'm painting, I always try to be loose at first so that accidents can occur. Besides experimenting is fun. This is an excellent and very useful pattern - thanks Drac.

AHHHHHHHH! Whenever anyone says seamless it almost always means tileable. Yours is right purty. Honestly I don't see what you are talking about. Looks fine to me. Meese-ah likeing da blue!
