This tutorial will explain to you how to create very easy svg gradients for Gimp that will work exactly like your other gradients.First off you will need a couple things.
A text editor
Gimp
Open your text editor and copy and paste this code into your editor.
You will want to save this code so save it as MySVGgradientCode.txt for now.
Then you can use it to create all your new SVG gradients very easily.
<defs>
<linearGradient id="MySVGgradientCode">
<stop offset="0%" stop-color="#FFFFFF" />
<stop offset="100%" stop-color="#000ac3" />
</linearGradient>
</defs>
From above gradient code -
To save the gradient copy the id name of whatever you named it and in your text editor go to File/Save as.
Then when your save as dialog opens paste the name in the text field and add the svg extension at the end like this. - "yourGradientName.svg" - include the quotation marks. Browse to your user gradients folder and click save.
Either open Gimp or refresh your gradients -your new gradient will be listed as the id name.
Well that's all fine and dandy Rod but what if i want a more complicated gradient - say 5 gradients?
Well i just happened to have created one for you that you can save and add dif stop marks to it however you please.
stops between must go in order between 0% and 100%
stop 5% - 100%
Example: My white to blue Fire gradient
<defs>
<linearGradient id="myWhiteToBlueFireGrad">
<stop offset="5%" stop-color="#FFFFFF" />
<stop offset="25%" stop-color="#fff000" />
<stop offset="50%" stop-color="#f57d00" />
<stop offset="75%" stop-color="#ff0000" />
<stop offset="100%" stop-color="#000ac3" />
</linearGradient>
</defs>
Example Image:
You can add up to 100 stops as far as i know 0-100% - maybe more with 1.5% i have not tried that yet.
maybe someone can try and post the results here.
IMHO this is a much easier way of creating gradients for gimp.
