Hola!

I'm messing around with Inkscape and I probably am doing something above me learning curve but it be me if I didn't! :hehe

What I'm trying to do is change the color of this banner from the red to a blue. But I don't know how! Flood filling it .. no go. I tried colorize .. no go. I'd like to preserve the gold stripes in the banner as well. I attached the file below!

I know very little of this program .. very very little! So any help is MOST greatly appreciated!!!!

Each closed path is an object in Inkscape.
Click the arrow tool and select an object.
Look at the bottom left of the window. You will see two colors. One is fill one is stroke.
Select the object, and click the fill color box and select a color, OR select the fill and stroke button on the top window dialog.More options with right click of your mouse.
Right click the stroke color box and select edit stroke, OR select the fill and stroke button on the top window dialog.

For this SVG you will need to do a lot of work changing gradient fills by going into the gradient editor for each piece.
Image example

Image

The first thing you will need to do is select the ribbon and un group all the pieces to it.

Image

It will take awhile.make sure and leave alpha for each gradient edit at its value.

Image

Need help holler at me. :)

Here is the re-colored image but you will need to fix some of the gradients. Most is done though.
Another hint for you also - If you can not get to a layer ie...one is above it so you can not get to it.Hold down the ALT key and keep clicking on the part you want to color.Watch the color box i told you about before to see when it changes to the one you want. Then edit it.

I went into that pieces gradient fill and used these settings. Not sure if that is what you want you may want to add white and get a glossy look. :)

Remember also that you HAVE to have the arrow tool selected to use alt-select.

Have fun! :clap

By the way you can select any object and then the gradient tool and edit node color by selecting them and use the color picker to grab a color for that node area. :)

Image

I hope this doesn't confuse you.I tried to make it all simple with images.

Thanks for all your help Rod!

This one was way above my level + it seemed like a lot of massive editing on a micro level. But, I think I cheated! :hehe I saved a super high-res copy of that as a PNG something like 2500px. I changed the colors using fuzzy select and colorize and then saved it and opened it in Inkscape and saved it as a SVG file.

I don't think it looks half bad if you ask me. But now my next question!! Can you do text on a path? Per say in between the gold part of the banner? This one seems like a simple enough chore for me!

Actually ...

After hitting this since 10:30am .. I can't get the path! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Got the text ... no path!

So Rod, if you would, could instruct me on how to get this text on a path inside the banner that would be awesome! :? :puzzled :pound I think that sums it up!

@MrBiggz-

Here is the banner converted to blue, with text on a path. I cheated by un-grouping the shape, moving the fold stitching paths off to the side, then using the extention->colour->custom command and just setting r to b and b to r.

The path is sitting up above the page boundaries of the banner.

I don't have your font so I couldn't actually do yours.

Remember also that you can make that path the text follows invisible by lowering it to the bottom.
If you want to bend it more precise just either adjust the path it follows, or use Path>Path effect editor and use bend. apply on canvas. You have to do a path>object to path on the text first to convert it to a path.Select the text then go to Path>path effects editor and select bend in the menu.It should be the first choice. This will create a green line within the text you can bend on canvas to adjust the bend a bit to suit your needs. You can use this effect on any path you want. :)
Just a few helpful hints.

Hey Rob?

I see an arc which would be some sort of path. How do I get rid of that? When I exported the out that light path line was still there.

Edit: I can double click on that path but when I delete it the text on the path is not longer there and looks really strange!

Just select everything BUT the path , group them into one group and save the selection.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! :yell

I tried selecting the path and it selects it fine. I click on that lower in stack button and nothing happens, I even tried to take the 'Y' value in a negative direction and nothing happens.

I did try grouping .. that was another joke! I'd get everything shift+select and then click the group button and something would end up missing. It's like I can select everything!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! :gaah

I'm feeling pretty mentally incompetent right now! :( And my wife is looking at me cause she doesn't understand the frustrated look on my face!

I usually select the path and change its stroke and fill both to none. You can the select and edit it in outline mode, but it is effectively unclickable and "gone" while performing normal editing.
