quote from jacek.poplawski

..to make some things clear:

- delaboratory is not a Gimp plugin, this is standalone application which should run before Gimp
- delaboratory doesn't support RAW files (I recommend RawTherapee)
- delaboratory doesn't use 16 bits per channel, it uses 32 bits per channel
delaboratory 0.5 has been released, this is major project milestone, GUI has been rewritten from scratch

Thanks PC; seen this on Partha's site before but didn't really do anything about it then. Just downloaded it and will try it later. :)

Now that would be cool. True gui 32-bit capable editing (and outside of PS). Let's see how far Delaboratory goes. Not saying GIMP should be eliminated, but am getting a little peturbed that even 2.8 won't offer 16-bit editing. :)

Gmic as delaboratory plugin will be great
i suppose a gmic for delaboratory would need a totally new gui (the plugin interface depend heavily on gtk and gimp)

Thanks for posting it here :)

two more informations:

1) delaboratory is not going to replace Gimp, Gimp is fully featured editor, delaboratory is just a color correction tool, there are many examples of bad applications in Free Software / Open Source world, but Gimp is not one of them, IMHO the only problem of Gimp is its current development process, so instead forcing my ideas in Gimp I decided to create separate application - and as you can see it was a good decision

2) I already discussed idea of using G'MIC in delaboratory with Ronounours (David Tschumperlé), we use similar data format (floats), I mainly understand how filters are defined, I don't expect any strange GUI requirements

So would Delaboratory be a filter within GMIC or how is that going to work?

I will create "G'MIC layer" which will execute gmic filter. This layer must know how to list available filters and how to set its parameters.
Ronounours explained to me both how to send data to G'MIC and how to get information about available filters.
