I did not think my musing would generate any interest.
@Mareroq
I first used metapixels in a debian distro, so ubuntu users should find it in their repo. If not see
http://pkgs.org/download/metapixelsI now use PCLOS and I just took the old rpm from my backup archive and unpacked it. Four files, 2 compiled and 2 perl scripts (perl - possibly why it has never been compiled for Windows). Popped them into /usr/bin for convenience.
What can you do with it?. Best with posters viewed from a distance. Once made some portraits composed of coloured tiles of the same portrait that worked very well. A note of caution, you can make monster files with this. The only time I crashed linux was trying to open a 400+ MB png in Gimp. I could see the ram meter head north and could do nothing to prevent the inevitable total lockup.
Windows users could try AndeaMosaic
http://www.andreaplanet.com/andreamosaic/ which has a nice GUI.
Back to the original subject: pleased to report that the latest Voronoi Stipple still works in linux using WINE. Must get into it now that it colours.
