Thanks Rod after reading through a lot of gtrc files I finally found one that used all pixmap images and the following is a quote from the gtrc file
Quote:
# This is the style based on pixmap- (pixbuf-) engine. It isn't fast, but I like this engine.
# I tried make possibly simpliest gtkrc-style, with a small number settings for each one
# widget, but a good-looking one and funcionally... ;-) This is experimental gtkrc.
# All widgets (without Gnome-Panel) take the settings from "DEFAULT STYLE" (only one class -
# - GtkWidget) which sets the properties for all the theme. It makes sure, the theme will have
# the same look of buttons, frames and other widgets for all applications using GTK+...?
# I think so... ;-)

it say's it isn't fast but i couln't notice any difference from a standard gtrc file, give or take a 1,000,000,000th of a milisecond.

I would imagine with those small image sizes loading the gtkrc file should be hardly noticeable.

Also i am thinking there is probably a way to substitute color tags for images.
So you can mix and match. I think i will play with this some more. :)

Very cool info Graechan; haven't really played with themes much (Windows user remember; lol). The instructions and themes work perfectly win 64-bit GIMP. Haven't tried to change the menu color yet, but might later. Does only Greenheart theme have the ability for the menu change (none of the other themes have menu.png file)? Well, I'll find out soon enough. :)

If you want I can send you a zip with over 100+ themes and all the additional engines that are needed for them. (Some still trying to find).

Still pretty cool. Not sure why I never pursued (well did try when somebody created a theme changer for Windows GIMP a few years back but wasn't really impressed then) it til now. I likey. :)

Thank you very much for sharing this Graechan. :)
I normally just use Aurora Midnights gtkrc file or my own neon gtkrc because i can just throw it in the gimp-2.8 folder and it works. But this could be very fun , and interesting to play with. :)

I went to view the YouTube video that you suggested as "step 1" and this is what was there...

Is this video anywhere else?

I've downloaded this and put the folder inside my username/gimp2.8/themes.

Hi Graechan

I'm confused about the directions that say:

2/ at the top of your gtrc file inside the folder you will find a place to name your theme

3/ rename your folder to match your theme name in part 2

I can't find the place to name the theme. I think it might be Metal'n'Stone but when I name the folder that it still doesn't work. I searched and found the folder from preferences themes in gimp.

I'd like to get a darker theme to help rest my eyes a little.

You can check out this link... http://thegimp.ca/gimp-2-8-dark-theme-lastend/
You might find something there you like.

Thanks Wallace

I downloaded and followed the instructions and the theme works great. I'll be saving lots of energy on this wide screen monitor now.

It works on my Win 7 64 bit computer.

I do see one problem with this Theme. I wonder if anybody knows how I could change the dark color of the curves dialog back to the white with a grid. Or maybe dark with a white grid.

You're welcome Pegleg44. :bigthup
That's great! There are more "Dark" themes there to chose from.

If the theme provides images. You may be able to find the one that corresponds with the dialogs that you can edit.
I'm not an expert at this though. Maybe someone else can help out with this.
