I made some transparent emaps some time ago, to see what they would do. Here's some of the results, using the Bevel Reflect Logo script. I don't know that there's any great benefit to using them, other than it does leave a nice, crisp outline.

Using this map:

The result is this:

Nothing spectacular per se, but when you click on the eye to reveal the "BR Logo Copy" layer, which of course is black, it looks like this:

I'm adding the transparent emaps, if you want to give them a try. Thanks for looking.

I never realized that the result from BRL was so much improved with the 'BR Logo Copy layer' set to visible
As I believe the scripts author does visit the site maybe he will update the script or tell us why it was left invisible

I like the results. The target image becomes transparent wherever the emap is transparent, an effect that could definitely be an advantage. :cool

In the BRL script, I make a copy of the original image for several reasons. It's not always advantageous to have the copied layer visible. In this post, I mentioned using the copied layer to create a smooth stroke or to blend the copy into the BRL result. This can helps to mitigate aliasing that can occur when the plug-in is called. When running from the alpha menu, I keep a copy to allow quick painting. You always have a copy of the original on which to make the next selection to be "painted".

That's what I always use the BR Logo Copy layer for, cleaning up the edges. I usually alpha to selection the BR Logo Copy layer, invert it, go to the BRL Logo layer, and hit edit>clear. Works very well.
