It seems a good idea
I tried several time to explain , but is difficult just because is too simple .

maybe a video would help ...or something with several screenshoot

If you have any idea or examples how to explain better the contribution is welcome

PC: You're right, it was simple, but perhaps like you say, too simple. I'd be willing to write the Linux side of it, with screenshots. A video would be too short. Could you supply the Windows (file locations, etc.) side of it?

sure
As in linux the .gmic file and here even its containing folder are as default hidden
So (for xp as for 7 )

first Start/Search in Search Tool/Option

in Option open "visualization" tab

Uncheck there " hide system files"
(till you are here i suggest also to uncheck the next "hide extension for commune files" even if is not strictly needed here, may do your life easier... )

Now you may see the folder that contain the gmic files
It is "Application Data" (please if you had a computer set in english check if correct, i translate from italian )

In xp there the file C: Documents and Settings/Your name/Application Data (or Data Applications or App Data)

in 7 is inside a "roaming" subfolder so will be C: Users/Your name/Application Data (or Data Applications or App Data)/roaming

i hope is clear

sorry for confusion on App Data or Application Data or whatever called that should be checked in a PC in english...

thanks for the help so far, jumping on this thread has clarified some things, but for the life of me i can't not get this presets to show up, i'm a total novice when it comes to code but normally a figure this things out,i realize that graphic novel fx is the effect im working with here i see it available in gmic so i no longer look for graphic boost I&II correct?,now i have no problem finding the .gmic_favs file, and creating the .gimc (text file?). another question i have is:on the first post of this thread PC posted the "code" now is this "code" the effect it self or the presets for Graphic Novel Fx,im not sure if i need to install the effect also or if is already included with gmic 1.4.7.2,and if so do i just need the presets for it pasted on the .gimc_favs file?,sorry throw so much at one time but i'd tried everything i can think of as well as the previous posts.

That long list of code is the filter. A preset code is about 2 lines.

Read the second part of this thread for info on adding presets.

ok i see, so that long code goes on the .gmic text file i'd created right?
i see what looks like too lines worth of code further down the thread on another of PC's posts which would go on the fav's file correct? i'd tried this but still no luck.

@jmontoya21
your understanding is correct. i think the way PC posted the preset code has some problem. use the filter to create your own preset and then compare that with PC's preset code. in my case i found some difference in the filter name mentioned in the preset (FX instead of Fx) that caused the preset not to show up.

I'm going to make a video - but first need to back up my original .gmic files. I will post the video on the G'MIC tutorial I created earlier this evening.

UPDATE: That video is up at viewtopic.php?f=9&t=978&p=10618#p10618

thanks so much mahvin and the other guys above, i finally figured out' i was saving the main code without the #'s and the title, and also saving it wrong,i was also stacking the presets wrong, now i just got to figure out how to write the ones that PC did not preset, i would love to have those available too,i'm guessing the one's on this thread and some of the older ones are the only available right? and of course the ones i may make.
thanks

I am uploading all the xcf i used for testing and save preset i will add the links
Also i am adding a different Test image (wildlife )

This because what could be a beauty treatment for a Lion, may be devastating on a close up of a young feminile model with a smoth skin
Now i do all the uploading may take a bit of time because i have to modify my subscrition to a hosting side (to avoid a upload limit), and make a lot of boring thing connected.

Or somebody here has a idea for a nag free (no publicity, registration or waiting time required to download ) for huge files (actually above 180MB but i may split in 2)

Are you still experiencing the same issue? David enhanced the preview window in 1.4.7.4, and it's working better for me.
