I made this Gold Star from scratch with Gimp and it took me a while to create. It's not perfect, but I feel it turned out pretty good.
Would any of you guys out there know how to create such a star quickly using Gimp, with out all the measuring and guide-lines that I used to make mine?
I guess this could be considered a sort of GC challenge.

Very nice Wallace...did you make this in power point?

Create two pentagons, centered on the same point, and one inside the other. Flip the interior vertically, then connect the vertices.

To answer the question in opening post, yes, I know, but
not sure this is the answer you want to hear Wallace.

Filters->Render->Gfig->Create Star.

Oh geez, man! your star is perfect Wallace, we did not want to post our examples because they would look bad compared to yours :bigthup

Thanks K1TesseraEna, but it's suppose to be a 'challenge' and one can't create a beveled 5 point star similar to the one I made for scratch with 'Gfig'. Just creating the basic 5 point with Gfig is not easy to do.

I was hopping that some of us would post their examples and tell us how they created their 5 pointed star with bevel image.

OK, I get it. Although, you mention measurement tools in OP , so I thought it was all about geometry, not the bevel and shiny gold stuff

so the question/challenge is how do make a star in Gimp OR how to make a bevelled star in Gimp ??

i would make a star in Inkscape and import it into Gimp, but i guess thats cheating, so i would use the 'Shape Paths' script instead

That's interesting.
If my star is rotated, bring each point to the top. The line from the left point to the right point will from a relatively straight/horizontal line.
Your example does create the 5 points and pretty quickly too, I think.

It took me nearly 2 hours to create the final gold star image with Gimp. I thought others might know of some way of creating such a star with Gimp, but faster then the 2+ hours it took me to make a single star.

Yes Esper, the 'Shape Paths' script would be a good start, but what about all the other elements that make up a beveled 5 pointed star?

creating a 5-point star in Gfig is very easy, imo

just choose 'create star', change sides to 5 and drag out, then use this tool to tweak it

Yes I see, I haven't used the 'Gfig' all that much, but looks like that would make a good starting point.
Thanks K1TesseraEna for posting this example. :bigthup

very nice Esper! How long did it take? For the sake of the challenge, I hope you timed it!

:wow Fine example Esper. :coolthup

I spent a lot of time making my star. Now I thinking I may have spent way to much time on it.
