You've definitely played with it, see here

how did you get the colors to blend so well ?
is it a gradient ?

the 3D effect is great as well, i have to do something like this some time, too

The base layer is a vertical white to black gradient, the text started as grey 808080, then ran through the 3d script, used selective Gaussian blur just to smooth it out a bit and set layer mode to screen. The shadow is the perspective shadow filter which I had to crop the text out off, then I created above all the other layers a orange to purple diagonal gradient that I set layer mode to colour and finally created a grey fog layer on top set to grain merge I think.

Followed your link and discovered a nice work of yours - Ubuntu stamp. How odd, around that time I was working on same thing in Blender, only difference mine is an iron brand. :hehe

O.k unless it was based on the tutorial I have read by fencepost which just made me assume it was his script.

Yes, he has written so many good ones, I was wondering how I missed that one. He has been missing now for at least a couple of years so he must be busy with his band.

Thanks for the comments, had a play some more, mainly because if I get in the right frame of mind I'll make a tutorial on the effect. I wanted to cover making the text whitish and also how to fill with a texture but still having a nice design.

he4rty: i liked the texture of the text very much, hope you'll make that tutorial! and i still don't tunderstand how the background kan be so smooth, two gradients combined with a layermode always looks sort of lumpy when i try it.

Funny you should mention that but just been trying a larger sized image with different colours and have run into the same problem of it striping, tried a gaussian blur but it seemed to enhance the stripe. In the end I set the coloured gradient to normal and placed the white to black gradient above it and set layer to screen.

AnMal - just tried the layer on hard light and seemed to give good results also the hex code I used for the grey fog was AEA79F. hope that helps.
