Just wanted to share. :)

Hey, Lyle, that's a good start. Here's the web brush I'm including in my brush packet for the Halloween kit. It's kind of semi transparent and full sized.

Thanks O; did a reverse Polar on that brush and it gives me some ideas. I have a way to create circular webs, but spider webs really have a deltoid or hypotrochoid like pattern (maybe not as regular as your web, but better then plain circular).

Appreciate the comments too PM. :)

A beautiful "accident" if I do say so myself. ;)

To me it looks like a wonderful luscious fabric. Say... a mod purple Christmas tree skirt?
Please take it as a compliment. I'm odd.

Roses are red, violets are blue
I'm schizophrenic... and so am I. :hehe

And please don't anyone get offended by my poem. I suffer from mental issues in addition to my physical issues.

IMO ya gotta be a bit off the wall to enjoy all this stuff. Can't do it in a nice safe box. If my metaphors are mixed, well, so am I. :cool

Lucy's reply:

Well, Mike, isn't it nice you don't have to leave the house play in GIMP? You can go all over the world, too, and not leave home. :hehe You can use agoraphobia as an excuse to stay home with your computer. Hug your computer.

OK O; found a clever way using several different filters to get this result, but it still quite interactive. Not even sure you can automate this. I can automate the easy circular web though. Still, I think I can streamline it more, but later. :)

That's a very cool web, Lyle. Looks realistic. Won't brush off my monitor. :cool

My first spider web. I wanted it to be "less uniform", but I think I did it too random. I can see some connection errors with it online that I didn't see on my computer. I will do better on the next one.

That's looking really great, Greg. :yes

Spider webs (to look at only) are one of my favorite things and even better is if they are dew-covered and then better yet the sun is shining through. Yeah, I know, I'm a bit strange.

I love spiders and taking pix of their webs. Here's attempt #2. I'm still not happy with it, but it's another learning process.

OK PM; a partial tut (partly because I'm lazy, but also because it is really still time consuming). The asy part is the frame work.

Things needed:

Voronoi Path: http://registry.gimp.org/node/20041

Shape Paths: http://registry.gimp.org/node/59
______________________________

First make a simple (but centered) Flower Spike (don't stroke yet; using this one to make the framework).

Image

Now rightclick on the path (inside paths dialogue) and run paths to Voronoi and stroke for the frame.

Image

Now you need to run Flower Spike again (on new transparent layer), but you will need to rotate to align to the Frame (only need to do one time; elaborate later). Stroke this time.

Image

Now, run Inverse Polar.

Image

Now duplicate the result but don't go all the way to the top.

Image

Now scale each result (time consuming; I did this by eye. Any Script-fu writers can help me out here; lol)

Image

Merge your result (but not the framework) and run Polar on it. Might have to do Layer to Image Size.

Image

Now add the inner loops using Flowerspike again (not doing or showing)

Also, should have lightened the outer loops more (did so on the one posted). I also did some additional things to make the result more threadlike (fill layer with noise set to color and also had a rough texture that I blended with the inverted (didn't do this step; black background and white threads) to make it look real. I also ran AAA Good Vibrations filter to warp it a little on my last version (tricks of the trade). Hope you like the semi (lazy man's) tut. :)
