I was kind of bored and decided to check out some of the filters that install with Gimp Sharp, and give you all sort of a run down on them all. =)

Here is the Ministek filter, which creates a pattern something like a weave.
You can make the shape types unlimited
You can set the size of the shapes
You can set the color of the outlines (the shapes are transparent)

Here is the original image:
Image
I duplicated the original image, ran Ministek on the original at size 16 and limit shapes.
Then i set the duplicate top layer mode to divide.
Image

This filter is called Raindrops
You can set the number of drops
You can set the size of the drops
You can set the fisheye also
Same original image same setup duplicated layer, ran raindrops on the original at size 50,number 50, and fisheye 30.Set the top duplicate layer mode to screen
Image

This filter is called Pointalize, you get one setting cell size...i set mine to 7.
Same setup...duplicate layer, ran pointalize on original image, set layer mode on top duplicate to value.
Image

This filter is called Forge, and it does just that it forges Planets in space...many, many settings...here is a result with just default settings. This filter creates an entire new image out of an empty layer.
Image

This filter is called NCP, it has lots of settings
I used points - 7
close to - 7
and use color..same setup duplicated image ran NCP on original and set top layer to screen. =)
Image

This next filter is called swirlies (IT Runs VERY VERY SLOOOOOW) I recommend using it on smaller images. =)
It has one setting...points.I set mine to 2.
Same setup , I duplicated image ran swirlies on bottom layer and set top layer to lighten only
Image

There are also these filters...

Slice-Tool - for slicing images into web pages
Photo-shop-Actions - (works), you must have a new layer created though.
Picture Package - creates albums
Updater plug-in - for GIMP# and all the filters
Koalia paint - still looking for it...lol
NEO - still looking for that too.

All in all there are 13 filters and/or plug-ins that come with Gimp-Sharp.
Its fun to play with that's for sure!

If i learn anymore ill post it up.

Those are some very nice effects, but I'm completely in the dark.

What is Gimp-Sharp?

Gimp Sharp is a package of filters from this source. 0.16 just came out for Linux only no windows yet =\
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-sharp/files/

If you use Linux dl the package and compile it.
http://download942.mediafire.com/91rcqs ... .16.tar.gz
If you use windows dl the 0.15.
The windows binary can be downloaded here.
http://download572.mediafire.com/rc9vbm ... mp_2.4.exe

Homepage
http://gimp-sharp.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html

The action pack zip file can be downloaded here
http://iweb.dl.sourceforge.net/project/ ... Set-10.zip

1) make sure you go into your gimp programs bin folder and change the gimp-2.6 to gimp-2.4, and the gimp-console-2.6 into gimp-console-2.4 (windows only), the new 0.16 version installs correctly into 2.6
for Linux users from what i hear.

Windows will auto install into the correct folder.
IMPORTANT! ... make sure to change the names of the gimp-console-2.4 and gimp-2.4 back to 2.6 before you open Gimp and run it.

After you rename the files back to their original names, start Gimp and look in Filters for most of the new filters. (they will have little images next to them), so they should be easy to find. One of those new Filters is named Photo shop Actions. To use it to play ATN files from Photo-shop you need to place a few ATN files in your scripts folder.
Try running 5 at first if that works add a few more.It seems to work fine for at least 10 loaded ATN files for 2.6.10 if you have an new image. If you try running it without a drawable it crashes, well it does for me anyways.
Another thing about the ATN files is the plug-in will show those with effects Gimp doesnt have in red text in the list. The ones in green text will run pretty fine. =)

The down-loadable ATN zip file is supposed to have all working ATN files so have fun!

You dont have to.Just change the two files to 2.4 as i stated above.Install it
change the file names back to 2.6 and open Gimp. The installer looks for those two files named 2.4 and installs into the correct directory.Once you change the file names back it has no effect on the new install. =)

When I started to install it it acted like another version of gimp. Is it just a filter pack or a whole different version of Gimp that will mess with my current installation?

Once I changed the file names, it still gave me issues, so I changed the folder name too. The program installed. I changed the file/folder names back and it runs! Woo Hoo!!

No it is not a version of Gimp.
It looks for certain files that are installed on your machine
Microsoft.Net 3.5
Gimp 2.4 (hence the reason to change those two files and then the program folder name if its not named 2.0)
The website has all the files you need to get it running on any machine. =)

If your installation of Gimp is named Program Files/Gimp 2.0 then you should only need to change the two file names in the bin folder. If its named something other than Gimp 2.0, change the folder name to 2.0 and install then change the folder name and the two file names back before you start Gimp again.

I have it running, and put the ATN files in my scripts folder. When I go into the dialog window, there are no ATN's listed. What folder should they be put in??

They have to be in your user/Gimp 2.6/scripts folder
But keep in mind the Photo Shop Actions filter will only run up to 10 ATN files, and if it runs into one it cant handle, it will crash.

Try running about 5 at first, and see if they all come up.If they do add one more at a time. The only problem is you have to restart Gimp every time you add an action file to your scripts folder or the plug-in wont see it anyways. =\
I really hope they do more work on this plug-in for 2.6 versions because i think its a real nice addition to Gimp.

Though i believe they should only add actions with filters available with Gimp. That way the entire action will run all the way through. However there are some ATN files that don't run all the way through even in PS.

There is currently a version out for Linux users 0.16 (too bad i dont have Linux)
I have no idea how to compile on Windows, i do have a c compiler though.Maybe ill give it a try.

Ill let you know how it turns out.

The whole Gimp Sharp package does have some very useful, and nice filters though. =)

I was a very early tryer for GIMP#; it was so buggy at the time that I promptly uninstalled it and haven't looked back. I may give it a whirl again one day (been a few years; surely those bugs are gone by now). :)

the point of gimp# was not that of offers built in filters, that were just examples, let say sort of templates , the point was provide a tool to make easier write filters , easier also because included a interpreter for a lot of different languages from C# to java

but basically was 1 men only project, and the lack of any documentation and of contributors were severe obstacle to its development.

a pity that was noticed only for what less relevant (i.e allow the use of some % of PS actions...but already recorded actions are nothing relevant, what is relevant is the macro-recorder that allow to create actions on the fly, without need to know any coding )

i never found relevant bug in gimp#...except for a filter usable only on 100x100 images with not risk, but at that time were no warning about

even in that case gimp# worked well the filters didn't crash, neither crashed gimp or the whole OS (instead gmic was always crash if too much resources are needed...now finally only the single filter crash without crashing the whole plugin)only took about 24 hours to finish (i could not kill gimp, because i had some other unsaved work )

When i downloaded it the exact reason i did was for the PhotoShop Actions plug-in.
I didn't realize so many great filters were coming with it.
Wish they would create a windows binary for 0.17 though. :)
