Hey guys, to celebrate Wilber's 16'th birthday on November 21'st, we're trying to generate some buzz about GIMP on twitter. On November 21'st, we are going to share our own gimp splashscreen on twitter and add a #gimpday twitter hashtag to it. The goal is to get #gimpday to become a trending topic on twitter, show people what you can do with GIMP, and to raise awareness about how fantastic this free software is. The splash screens will not be the only thing to share with the #gimpday hashtag though. Share your favorite gimp art on twitter with it too!

What better a way to thank everyone who was involved in making our favorite software?

Tell all of your gimp-loving friends, and be sure to remind them about it. The more participation we get, the higher the odds of this hashtag trending.

I found the GIMP splash screen archive. Might be fun to do something with those.

I don't think so. Gonna give it a try though. Won't take long to test that theory.

Nope.

We had 2 splashscreen Gallery on Gimptalk with a lot of cool entries (alas posting of xcf was not enabled )
Some images may be gone (NEVER used photobucket ,they delete everything after a short time )but most should be still there

Now if i may only could found the original xcf of my Mrs Wilbress :gaah ... original was so nice 1 layer for each detail ,4 different BG all at 1200x1600 (...obviously to be resized  )

@Standford
1 ) The format must be png that support transparency ..but...alas...somehow gimp will add a BG
2) Once even animation (gif) was supported, the trick was to rename gif extension with .png
BUT i fear now may be no more supported (i didn't test yet on 2.7 )

It is supported if you place the animation in the splashes directory in your user docs :)

I used Filters/Animation/Rippling with these settings Molly. :)

This one isn't cropped correctly after the rippling filter but you can see it works really well.

Thanks tstandiford for the kind comment.

Lyle that chalkboard image looks really cool.

I am not entirely sure if transparency is supported through the splashes directory as any image with any name will be called as a splash screen from that directory. So it may be possible.I have not tried it yet.

Groovy! I tried the animated splash - and lo and behold, it does work! Really cool, that.

I tried a transparent image but it put a black background in it.
