This will be my last art post for a little while, since I have company coming and then some catching up to do at work. I also want to be careful I don't crowd the art board.
I like playing with flame fractals. I mentioned in a comment on another topic that, to me, it's fun to look for images like we do with stars and clouds.
This will be an illustration for my WIP. I generally don't like to illustrate monsters, since I prefer to leave them to the readers' imaginations. I also don't like to illustrate battles. The poses are very difficult for me, and I don't want the illustration to suggest an outcome. Still, I couldn't resist drawing ``the blob'' since the flame fractal so closely resembled the image I had in my head. The flame itself was generated with Apophysis, but it could just as easily have been generated with the flame feature in GIMP.

Image itself is a link to bigger version.
The other reason I don't like to draw monsters is because I can never convince myself they're scary. I'm the kind of person that laughs at horror movies because they're just that ridiculous. And if I can't convince myself they're scary, I can't believe anybody else would think they are.
The character is the protagonist of book 2. This is intended to be a cliff-hanger at the end of a chapter. I won't reveal how the battle ends. (muahahahaha)
