I think it's the juggler in me but I'm fascinated with creating spheres, all the spheres below where based on this TUTORIAL, the only modifications was I filled the whole canvas with the desired pattern and then followed method 2.

Image

The top Left image started as gimp's Native chequer board pattern and the bottom left used G'mics polka dot filter, the two images on the right both used G'mics packed sprite filter.

Also had a play at trying to extrude an image into the centre of the sphere.

Thank you he4rty, nice spheres yours. I remember I did both methods in the tutorial. I'll try it again with your style. :) :bigthup

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

OK He4rty; how did you extrude? Can't seem to figure this out. Tried G'MIC's extrude and zoom motion blur but that didn't work out. Any chance for a quick and dirty tute? lol

:)

I think its my turn to request the tut, Just for your information I used the 3d-extrusion script that Tux updated. I tried it on both the flats image prior to mapping and on the mapped image as well, I used the shrink setting. http://gimpscripts.com/2013/12/3d-extrusion/ .

I like the second sphere Lylejk looks like its been made from shot glasses.

He4rty did it first so He4rty needs to do the tut. lol

I will say I used Mathmap's; used Distort>sphere to make the sphere. For the second shot glass one, I used two passes (bigger circles then a separate layer smaller circles). Also, I used ingoing zoom motion blur for the big circles and outgoing (which is the default setting) zoom motion blur for the small circles. As for the circles, that was easy; G'MIC's Polkadots followed by G'MIC's Gradient Norm. To get the glass effect, you can thank Graechan's Alpha to Logo glass Script-fu. Used plastic wrap Script-fu for the black version of my render. Was alright, but Graechan's Script-fu is much what I was looking for. :)
