No pretty captures since I'm lazy tonight, but the steps aren't that hard.

Basic wireframe is about as easy as cake. First choose a target for the effect (created a pyramid with G'MIC). Then run GIMP's Mosaic filter with Triangles. Finally run G'MIC's Isophotes (use to do a lot of work to get this effect; Isophotes does it in one swell swoop; how sweat is that) and voila. Now, with some more complicated blending, you can get results like this (http://www.innographx.com/forum/viewtop ... 71#p126971). :)

For sure, no sweat to that. I used a cube and square mosaic tiles.

Just so you can find the proper paths to the different filters:

Your image
(Shape) G'MIC > Rendering > 3d image object

  • After running the 3d image object filter, duplicate the resulting shaped layer.

Filters > Distorts > Mosaic

  • After running the mosaic filter on the top layer, run Alpha to Selection on the bottom (unchanged layer), Invert the selection, then select the top (mosaic layer) and press delete. Gets rid of the stuff around the image that the mosaic filter throws around it.

G'MIC > Contours > Isophotes

  • Delete the bottom, unchanged shape layer.

There is sort of a bug with the mosaic filter that leaves artifacts in transparent areas (just selected and deleted), but this technique can be used either way Molly; that's what's cool about it. Isophots will give you transparent outlines in the end anyway. :)

Well after 7 times, this is what I got. The prob is with the isophote filter. I had to run it 3 times to make it take out the white between the wires.

Should only have to use it once Molly; might need to play with the settings for it. Also, when doing the mosaic step, reduce the hight to 1 (which is the minimum). I like your result by the way. :)

@ Lyle ... your bauble is so nice! Love it.

@ Molly ... I love your butterfly! Nice job.

Tutankhamen kind of got lost in the wire frame/truss.

These are all mega-sweet! I love butterflies and Egyptian art! The trussed bauble is amazing also! I am finally sitting down, so now I can play!

It's a fair start. Not great, but today has been insane here at the nut house, so maybe tomorrow I'll do better.

Lyle, I blatantly stole your image, put a blue bg behind it and edge-merged it with a NASA space image.

Now that's cool. A year or so ago, I made a Dyson Sphere and this render sort of reminded me of that. Understand the stitching mosaic effect too (at first, I said to myself why the weird corners) after reading your post. lol

I was going to try just a feathered circle of blue under your image but had to dash off to an appointment. Will give it a go and see if those corners go away.

I like this one better. I used a solid blue circle the size of the wireframe. The feathered one left an ugly blue rim in the image that I didn't like when I edge-merged it.
