I know I know, their are scripts for everything...lol.
But i figured why not get down too good old basics without the script.
Besides you can make it real easy.Here is the movie tutorial.

You need FX Foundry installed in you GIMP for the inner glow step.

Enjoy, It's my first one. ... Movie tutorial that is. =P

Plastic Text Tutorial Click Here

It turned out kind of blurry, i dunno why.It was fine when i watched it after i made it.
Seemed to get blurry after i uploaded it to YouTube.

Now that i know my movie works on my server i think i'll be putting all my movie tutorials up there for now on.
Beats writing them all down all the time.I just need to find a better movie creator than Fast Stone Capture.
I have Cam Studio, gonna try that next.What do you guys recommend in movie creation for Windows XP?

That's why I started with videos too. So much faster then writing down.

Record with camstudio, edit with virtual dub if you have lots of space on your HDD. I recommend using panning in this case.
Camstudio + windows movie maker for effects and smaller end result video files. Use the HD setting to render the video. You need to add a file first. There's a video on youtube on it. I'll try to find for you.

Read the comments to find out where you can get HD file from.

Camtasia Studio is great but pricey. But there's a months trial.

good tut. Even though there are scripts, I like to know how to do it from scratch, so I understand what all the parameters will do.
I tried to add another highlight layer to give it some shine, and a drop shadow for depth, but it didn't really work very well.

I have seen many tutorials on plastic text, and most are pretty good. I actually found this tutorial to be much more basic and suprisingly effective! This is an awesome tutorial and I love the results!

That's very cool, Greg. Almost looks like neon tubing waiting to be turned on.

Very nice results everyone.Thanks for the kind comments. =)
There is no need really to merge everything just link it together to move it all at once.Then you should be able to control all the aspects of the image layers.

Very Cool ... I need to play with this a bit more. The font choice makes a huge difference with this one.

I have layer effects as a script and also as a python plugin. Inner glow in the ones I have are different from the one in SourceForge. I do NOT like SourceForge scripts because they put a new menu item on my GIMP menu and it's crowded enough without adding more to it.

I do not plan to download the SourceForge packet with so many scripts in it.

These are the two inner glow dialogs I have. Hopefully I can figure out what to do to get results like the ones in the tutorial. I'm kind of thinking Choke and Size are the two corresponding measurements.

As long as your glow is inside and a darker color than your text you should be fine.
Its just too make the depth a little better.

You can also add the glow without merging your layers, so you can mess with
the placement of the glow after you add it...just link the layers except text and move
them around.Or play with it until it looks right.

I had both layerfx scripts also so i took out the SCM
FX Foundry has some awesome scripts. Ill rewrite each one to appear in the Filters menu.
Then ill upload them to Gimp Chat for you O, and whomever wants them. =)

No need to go to that much work, Rod. If the foundry has a script I want, I just change it to the filters menu.

For future tutorials, you might consider using larger thumbnail previews in your Layers and Channels dialogs (available under their respective menus), and increasing the font size used by GIMP for menus and dialogs. The font size can be changed by adding lines similar to the following to your .gimp-2.6/gtkrc file.

style "gimp-default-style"
{
font_name = "sans 20"
}

These changes will help viewers see what is happening even if your video gets scaled down (the following screenshot is nearly a quarter its original size).
