This tutorial incorporates a few methods mentioned in Akky's Diamond Script post. I also used one of her flower images to create the smooth palette image suggested by Rod.

I was trying to use strictly G'MIC for most of the tutorial, without opening, closing, re-opening. Keep in mind this is (one) G'MIC session, using the APPLY button until the very end.

It might seem like a lot of work the first time around, but it actually goes very fast, as long as you remember to change the Input/Output settings when needed. Enjoy!

The tutorial on my blog: http://www.mahvin.com/2011/05/somewhat- ... using.html

Also, if you want to move the plaid pattern to any other angle, you can re-open G'MIC using the "My New Filter" and set the angle to whatever you wish, just make sure to keep the space option at "by repeating the image".

Depending on the angle you choose, it will no longer be seamless.

Are the tags bbcode or HTML?

Great tutorial!

Great tutorial, i like the addition of canvas and that filter will come in handy for rotation of layers.
Thanks for sharing it Mahvin.

David addressed your request Mahvin and created a cool G'MIC preset. It currently does not make the texture seemless though, but, in GIMP, it isn't that hard to do so. I did add some cotton texture to it to make it look more like linen (and yes, it's seamless; it's what I do; lol). :)

Very cool, mahvin. I love this tutorial and your gmic addition. With the canvas pattern, it looks like real fabric.

Wow! I wasn't expecting a filter, although I do think its cool. I'm trying to figure out why I can't make the results seamless in G'MIC. Weird.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. :)

O: It's html.

PC: It's under David's set (I have not searched for it in Patterns, where it should eventually end up).

Akky, what were your steps, in detail?

Just for starters, if you've never saved or created a filter, there won't be a .gmic file, so you have to create one. It's a hidden file so it has to be treated as all hidden files are treated on your Mac. It has no extension. It's just .gmic

It's not a hopeless situation, just requires a little bit of patience, since Macs aren't in the majority.

Secondly, the .gmic has to reside where you find the definition file, which is .gmic_defxxxx, or something similar to that.

Once you find the definition file, you'll know whether or not you have a .gmic file or not. It should be in the same folder/location. If you see a definition file but no .gmic, it means you don't have one.

By the way, David made a filter for plaid design, it works really well.

OK, I refreshed and found it in David's set and started with just an image and came up with plaid. So where do I start to make it diagonal and seamless?

I actually am trying to find the simple G'MIC way, at the moment. It has something to do with the centering of the original plaid result. Once I figure that out, I'll post it. Lyle uses GIMP, but not sure how he does it, hopefully he'll follow up with his method.

ok, I was a bit confused because I was expecting this ".gmic" in the gimp dir when it was in my cecilia/ dir....but now, exactly WHERE do I copy this section (this new filter) in the ".gmic" file????

Right well I have found an invisible thing called .gmic_def.1492
Not sure if this is what I need or not, let alone understand what to do with it.
I'm assuming the numbers are for GMIC 1.4.9.2
Might help to know that it appears to be a document file as well.

Cecilia, have you opened the .gmic file? Do you see other filters in it. What Willy is referring to is the way we sort our filters out by placing these below

#######My First Filter Start########

then code here

####### MY First Filter End#########

It just makes the filters easier to identify when making changes to them.

You can place it anywhere in the file, as long as it doesn't interfere or break another filter.

Sorry, but what am I missing?

1) Create a palette

2) Create a gradient from the palette

3)On two layers, drag the gradient from a corner to the center (use sawtooth repeat)

4)Play with the layer modes (this is grain merge)
