Adding G'MIC to Mac OS X 10.6.7

1. Download G'MIC for your OS from specified link.

2. Go to Home Folder users/library/application support/gimp/plug-ins and add gmic to plug-in folder

3. Open GIMP and go to edit /preferences/folders/plug-ins.

In the right hand pane at the top you will see five contol icons. Click the far left icon (sheet of paper with the corner folded down). This will activate the type-in field to the right of the control icons. To the right of the type-in field there is a folder icon. Click and browse your file system and select your equivalent of /Users/akkadia2/Library/Application Support/Gimp/plug-ins (In point of actual fact when I did it that was already in that line, so all I had to do was click ok and BINGO!!)

Click OK at bottom right of the preferences dialog. Restart GIMP and GMIC should appear in the 'Filters' menu

Akky, I have tried doing this, but if you look at my screenshot, you can see that the only plugins part of Gimp support was under 'gegl'.

Needless to say that I can't see G'mic in Gimp-Filters.

ok you have it in the correct place but now you have to open gimp and go to the GIMP preferences.
Open the plug in folder here.
And follow the remainder of the instructions.....in the last paragraph...

Thanks for those, Akky. I had seen the original tut on g'mic (obviously), but not that one you just linked to. I'm going to take a look at the prefs now.

Right, Akky, I have done as you say, but still nothing showing up in Filters.

I am concerned that the plug-ins was originally in a 'gegl' folder in app support, and although I pointed the prefs to it, it did not show up.

So I then, rightly or wrongly, created a plug-ins folder, still in Gimp App Support, and put the g'mic file in there, and pointed to that and now joy either.

I have re-started Gimp each time.

Please see the screenshot for the file structure.

Thanks

A bit of advice...I actually deleted gmic totally and then downloaded it afresh....then when its unzipped...go to your home folder and follow the path I am showing you here and place it int he actual folder...once done...follow the instructions I gave with the screenshots

After you have done that... open gimp afresh ...you need to tell GIMP where the GMIC is...I would think there would already be a url in the GIMP/edit/preferences/plug-ins open pane...if not then you need to hilight gmic in the folder above then go to your FINDER and right click on it...click on open folder...this will give you a url which you can copy and paste into the pane to show GIMP where to find the GMIC...then follow the rest of the instructions

Windy looking at your GIMP folder there, you dont seem to have folders for any brushes or gradients palettes patterns scripts etc...I am wondering where they are and if we are looking in the same part of the computer for the correct items.

Akky from one of your screenshoot you have 4 identical paths in preferences (the last 4 )
Of the 4 identical paths only 1 is needed, the other can't add nothing since they point all on the same folder

yes but the screenshot is different in that I am showing her how to get the url..its not demonstrating the path but the method of gaining the URL needed for the plug ins folder

Windy as Akky wrote is strange you don't have also folder for brushes, pattern etc in your screenshoot
Anyway as default that folders are empty (are for you to add things there) so that will not directly create problems but may be a signal of something wrong (maybe the gimp installer corrupted by problems during the download )

Anyway back to gmic if you put the gmic folder in "users/library/application support/gimp/plug-ins " then the path to add in preferences will be users/library/application support/gimp/plug-ins /gmic

If nothing else wrong just correct that path should fix

Well I've said it before and I'll say it again...it is not that simple...it needs to go via the GIMP/edit/preferences/plug-ins and the url for gmic placed in there before it will work. End of story......And I'll not comment any further on this.

yes sure you are right but i was saying something else:

when " go via the GIMP/edit/preferences/plug-ins she had not to stop when she SEE a gmic folder but when she OPEN the gmic

So if she added a gmic folder but her path do not end with /gmic that can't be a correct path
It is a error easy to do:
stop the path when the additional folder become visible instead then INSIDE the additional folder,..in other words instead when the CONTENT of the additional folder become visible
, i hope now is more clear what i intend

Akky

I have got downloaded g'mic afresh, and done as you say, but look at this screenshot of my folders. What I have in mine looks different to yours.

I thought I had downloaded the correct version of g'mic. Now I'm thinking maybe I did not? I'll double check.
